NV30 is amazing

I must say that right now the video card sector is by far the most interesting of them all in this industry. Matrox has a pretty big announcement tomorrow that I'll be covering, 3DLabs just recently announced their powerful VPU, NV30 is amazing, and Matthew and I will be up to see ATI later this week.

What a tease, cmon give us a hint please

hu huh huh matrox... i like my matrox 🙂

i have a dual g400 powering a dual p4 2.2 xeon 🙂 🙂

talk about unbalanced system..

Yah, I noticed that. That must mean that there are samples out there, that anand has seen. Maybe its a lot closer than we think😉

Nvdia have stated that to maintain profitability they have to introduce new cards so that they can get people to pay the big bucks at the start of its shelf life.

Theres been word that the NV30 and the R300 won't show their faces until Q3 of this year.

Might be that Matrox will have the performance crown quite a while.

One Quater of dominance is nothing. The only way Matrox will be a competitor for any decent period of time is if they keep coming out with new card's, which is highly doubtful looking at their past release's. I admit that if they get their card out soon, which they most likely will, that it will sell very well. But as far as I can tell, Matrox is a company that relies on one product alone, then rides it to it's death. Not a very good way to be on top of the game if you ask me, especially with such long product cycle's.

Yes, comany's must make money, and they can't sell product's that everyone already has, or aren't new. If there is no demand, profit's can't be made.

I hardly believe that the new matrox card will be faster than a Geforce 4 4600. I remember how
much better the Radion 8500 was supposed to be against the Geforce 3 ti 500, but in the end, the 8500
is slower than a Geforce 3 Ti 200. A graphics card company that has been out of the loop for so long
in the high-end arena can't just take the performance crown. It won't happen.

I hope that's a joke, either that or you need to do some serious fact-checking

i would like to say two things.

1.) it's radeon.
2.) links?!?!

The Matrox Parhelia will toast the 4600, and maybe the NV30....

vadatajs, it's no joke....some reliable inside sources told me so...fact, fiction?

you got that right 😀

at least we don't have that troll hardware around here anymore.

but in the end, the 8500
is slower than a Geforce 3 Ti 200.
currently its just as fast as the ti500 in some things, a little faster in others, a little slower in others (IIRC) and its cheaper than a Ti200. seems like a hot deal to me.

Matrox, at the time of the G200 and G400 products, was commenting on the fact that they needed to have three sets of developers operating at the same time. One making the current products. Another working on the next generation. And a third working on the way future stuff.

It looks to me like this might be the way future stuff group coming through.

And shortly thereafter they canceled the G800 and sued Nvidia for hiring all their engineers away.

If you think Matrox has 3 engineering teams you are nuts. This product will be milked for 3 years just like the G400.

I still can't believe people are saying Matrox is going to be faster than NV300 or the R300 when you don't even know what each company is going to provide. Personally I'd put my money on the sure bet (and they aren't in canada).

I know for a fact that they have at least 2, one in Toronto and one in Montreal.

I interpreted Rahvin's comment to mean that he's betting on nVidia (the company that's not in Canada). I'd have to concur. nVidia has established a pretty good track record over the last 4 years.

If I were going to bet... but I'm not. I'm happy with my Ti200 and wouldn't spend the kind of money these guys would want to upgrade. When they hit the <$130 price point that I buy at (my Ti200 was $129), then I'll be interested. 🙂

I'm not saying they have 3 groups now. Just that they did and it is possible that this is the result of having done that way back when.

I've also made no statements as to the speed of anything relative to anything.

Personally I'm looking forward to the R300 but I'll look at the Matrox product, too.

I hope the Matrox Paranoid or whatever it's called is faster than the NV40 for the sake of Matrox users because that's probably the time you'll see another competitive product from them😛

And I hope those other idiots in Canada finally get it right this time around with the R300 and deliver a solid product at launch

Thats a joke...right? Please tell me you aren't serious??

Right now thats BS. But when the radeon 8500 came out the Geforce 3 ti 200 were faster (or around the same speed). Driver problems and such. Now the Radeon 8500 overall is tad faster than a Geforce 3 and is tad slower (or around same speed in some benches) than a Geforce 3 ti 500.
