I was reading the Tom's Hardware review of the Radeon 9700pro and at the end this is said:

"As for the update to the GeForce4 family, code-named NV18 and NV28..."

I've never heard anything about the nv28. If its just going to be speed increases on the curent geforce 4 line, how far will they be taking the cards?
 
I am always reading new and reviews and have NEVER heard of NV28. I have heard of NV18, but it is nothing to look foward to as NV30 is what we are looing for in the future after the 9700 has had its day.
 
The NV18/28 has been talked about and rumoured a quite a number of times on tech sites, but they don't get much discussion on the board primarily because they'll be released so close to the launch of the NV30. I don't believe Anand has ever mentioned it in his articles but they've had news links to info on it.

The NV18/28 seem to be little more then an AGP 8X supporting GF4/GF4 MX.... possibly along with a small clockspeed boost though that's unconfirmed.
No big improvements, and it may well be only AGP 8X.

😉 Yup, NV18 and NV28 although quiet have been on the cards a while. Details are very sketchy and VERY little is truly known. IMHO I'd expect AGP8x which is of very little use, perhaps 0.13mu (like NV30), higher clocks (marginal), improved AA/Aniso (NV30ish?) and maybe even nVidia's hybrid DDR-II technology too. If 0.13mu this would suggest higher clocks and cooler running making onboard integration a possibility, heck ATI can do so with their Rad9000/pro cards! We may get a dedicated nVidia branded TVout solution (about time) or 3 monitor support, but I doubt it, this would be saved for NV30 IMHO. Obviously this is mostly educated guess work, you may find it boils down to what the GF4MX did for GF2, ie not a fat lot really ... LOL!

😀 In summary I would expect NV18 to remain DX7 and be an enhanced GF4MX with little more than higher clocks and better efficiency (courtesy of NV30), NV28 to be ditto for the DX8 GF4TI cards. If you want DX9 both nVidia and ATI want you to pay the price premium.
 
😉 I meant when NV30 comes out. Neither company will want to rush a 'budget' DX9 card to the shelves as they'll want to exhaust those willing to pay $400 for the priviledge first.
