NV20 and GF3?

Anyone knows whats with with nVidia giving the NV20 the discraceful name of GeForce? They said it wouldn't carry the GeForce name and I was looking forward to seeing what they were going to call it.

Hell yeah it matters. The name makes or breaks a product. I'm taking a second thought about getting an NV20 now.

Ok, if two products were equal in every way, going with the one with the cooler name would be OK, but in any other case...

A name matters quite alot because people are going to associate the NV20 with the GeForce line. I'd be embarassed and ashamed as hell when someone asks me what kinda video card I have;

me: "I have an NV20.."
person: "Oh, you've got a GeForce3!"
me: "Screw you too."

I mean common. Thats one name I don't want on my system config list.

I think NV20 sounds better. I've always thought the GeForce name was not very good.

I think he was saying that Voodoo is an even worse name than GeForce. I don't think he was commenting on 3dfx themselves, but rather if nVidia called the NV20 the Voodoo6 it would be nVidia's downfall.

Why do you really care that much what the GPU is called? If it's fast and gives you features you want (which it is and doesn't) then buy it (or not). Call it a nVidia purple-nurple special if you want.

I personally think that after #2 every company should come up with a new name for their products. I just hope Inhell will dream up a new name before the Pentium XIIV.

EDIT: This doesn't include software versions though. It won't bother me to have mIRC v69.9 or GetRight v234.5 . (Although by Quake 27 I am sure I'll be sick of that name ).

BTW: I am not saying I wouldn't buy something because of it's name, it just annoys me.

with a catch phrase like: The nVidia Orgazmo III: 3D power so stunning, you'll forget what sex is!
