NV17 (GF3MX) is supposed to be released soon.

Due to the large amount of transistors needed for the Vertex Shader, I don't think the chip itself will be much cheaper than NV20 (it's still 0.15 micron). There's also the legacy DX7 T&L unit.

Performance will be lower though, probably below GF2GTS level.

GF2MX at least doesn't require a fan...

For the 101st time. NVidia already said there will be no GF3MX part they have said nothing about GF4MX though.

How can golden/platinum members so blatantly state opposites?

One doesn't deserve their title!

if a gf3mx wont be as good as a gf2gts, then what the hell is the point?? it has to be better, or it'd be pointless. you can overclock a gf2mx to be somewhat near a gf2gts.

Is this "GF3MX" you speak of an upgraded GF2MX (upgraded as in faster, but the same basic functionality), or a low-cost GF3?

well the idea of a MX chip is the same core, with same features and functions (t&l and stuff) but half texturing pipelines, effectively half fillrate. (2 instead of 4). so GF3MX (if there will be such a thing) will be a cut down version of nv20 (GF3) but with only half fillrate. it should include fully programmable t&l, lightspeed memory and all other goodies. and GF2MX in definetly nv11.

Mülheim , in, ? The GeForce3 - MX - chip of Nvidia should still be introduced officially in this summer. That goes from a report of the French magazine " hardware. fr ", in which is referred on the Roadmap of Asus, forth.
Therefore Asus wants already to produce the first GeForce3-MX-Kartens with the V8100 in August and little later into the market wants to bring. Like already in matters GeForce2 MX shall with the GeForce - 3 - MX - chip the number of the Rendering - pipelines of four on two is reduced.

Still, hardware reports ". fr " of a GeForce3 - ultra - accelerators, that in the Asus - Roadmap under her/it model - name V8500 first start of 2002 appears. One speculates that the GeForce3 Ultra in 0,13 microns - technology manufactured and should be driven with a bar-frequency of 300 MHzes. Shall the 3D moreover - chip an improved Vertex Shader shows.

CHIP online thinks:
With the GeForce3 Ultra, Nvidia can leave itself another little time quietly, since already the potential of the current GeForce3 in almost no one 3D - game can be used. Moreover, the price of the card should deter again.

Cards with the GeForce3 - MX - chip is interesting against it particularly for the smaller purse. Until the first GeForce3-MX-Boardses come on the market, another couple of months should pass however since the new GeForce2 MX-400S cards are just now available.

NV17: GeForce3 MX of NVIDIA
Published the 4/5/2001 per Vincent - Source: www.xbitlabs.com

As envisaged NVIDIA works in this moment on a version of input of range of GeForce3, which will certainly be baptized GeForce3 MX but which for the moment is known under the name of code NV17.

This new chip based on the architecture of GeForce3 (Direct support of the functions X8 + nFinite FX) will make it possible to develop cards sold in the surroundings of 150$ (1250 FF including all taxes).

The exact specifications of chip are not yet defined but it will be compatible with memory SDRAM and GDR, however the first cards will be only equipped with memory SDRAM.

The performances of this chip will be equivalent to those obtained with from GeForce2 (GDR) and it will propose a complete support of Direct X8.

it might come out, but will it even be worth it? if its not gonna be faster than the gts why buy it. they come out with these value cards that cost more than the few month old high end cards, while the older cards are still faster. i got a gf 2 mx thinking even though it was a value card it would be better because it was a newer technology, but my older gf ddr was still a hell of a lot faster after i played a lot of games on the mx so i sold the mx and popped the ddr back in. i think this will end up to be a similiar situation with gf 2 pros compared to gf 3 mx's if they come out, it will be newer technology, but a slow card.

what are they going to cut out of the programmable t&l engine? that thing takes up a lot of transistor space. so they cut some from there, they cut out half the render pipes, and cut down on the cache, how many transistors does that leave? probably way too many. and what is this card really going to do? its just going to kill the gf2 market, just like the gf2mx killed the geforce market. which is something that didn't need to happen and we're probably worse off for it.
