They picked PAM3 to keep the costs down, so my guess is that it won't be more expensive than GDDR6X, while being faster.

DDR5 is also getting to price parity with DDR4 already. These things don't have to be much more expensive.

Lame. I mean they aren’t going to be the most exciting reviews anyway right? Consensus is like a 3% average increase over regular 4080 with the MSRP being the big deal.

Still I’m planning to try and snag one of these and the review delay makes me uneasy lol
 
Does anyone have an idea of the time of day the 4080 Super will drop at Best Buy or Nvidia’s website tomorrow?
 
4080 Super leak from a Chinese reviewer. Take with whatever amount of salt you deem necessary. Results show basically no improvement over the regular 4080.

As much as we would like to return to the "good old days" for a variety of things, that isn't how the universe works. The Pre-COVID, Pre-Crypto GPU market is gone and it's not coming back.

Except the Crypto craze is now Post-Crypto (i.e. dead and no more for GPU's at least), and the COVID supply shortages is now Post-COVID with no supply shortage. So all the conditions that caused the price spikes are gone, with only manufacturers still thinking they can squeeze the market to try and get that money that scalpers received during the supply shortages and crypto market....

Ultimately, the sellers can only decide what they want or are capable of offering, and it's the consumers that choose how to respond.

The consumers can:
- Upgrade as often as they did at the higher price
- Delay upgrades to get a similar price/perf increase even if it takes longer to get there
- Abandon PC gaming and go to consoles or even abandon gaming altogether

We've already seen that the huge demand ended with the end of the mining boom, where people could earn back (part of) the cost of the card. So this idea that the mining boom situation is permanent has already been proven to be false.

That doesn't mean that you get the same situation back as before the boom, but that is also due to the cost increases of new nodes.

Prices are no where near what scalpers were getting during the crypto boom.

Plus the post crytpo, post pandemic effects continue in the form of lingering supply chain issues, and we have a couple of wars, shipping problems from Houthi rebels in the red sea, and the Panama canal backing up from drought related climate change, and a lot of inflation in recent years driving price of most things up.

Things are FAR from where it was in the good old days, people keep dreaming of.

I would be careful when mentioning inflation as counter-argument to corporate greed:

Totally not an unreasonable wish. The company has enough in their coffers to give back to their loyal customers. But of course, we are supposed to believe that we live in a changed world now where such expectations don't jell with reality anymore. Oh that's in addition to making sure to take all responsibility of plugging in the connector just right too. Coz everyone involved in the development of these amazing products is too busy to make it idiotproof and we are supposed to co-operate and help this company and their partners make even more billions, for a better RTX future!

A 320bit/20GB 4080 Super with 100 SM even at the original $1200 would have been a more interesting card than this one. Drop the 4080 to $999, and you get a couple new points for people to talk about.
 
Microcenter ad says available at $999 today.

A bunch in stock at that price, then a bunch of options @ $1050 and $1100. A couple tardy 4080's left at ~$1200+.

So, an MSRP drop that got a new name and left retailers holding old stock at higher prices. Sounds about right 😀

Ocean containers from APAC to LA are still dirty cheap, for the record. They are below pandemic pricing. Now, getting my current 20' container from western India to Georgia is costing me ~10% more than before the Red Sea stuff started. That's about $400. So... import shipping costs are nothing like what they were like a couple years ago.
 
Looks like a performance increase so small that a slightly factory OC'd 4080 is probably the same or faster:

Truly a $200 price cut. I guess its still the fastest nvidia card for less than about $1800-$2,000. It's a big premium for a final but noticeable step up. Which is by design, and I am not taking a shot at nvidia here. That's just functional merchandising when you are in the position to do so. At least that final step the 4090 is measurable.

That would be the 4080 Ti and likely more than $1199. Probably not happening at this point.

It's totally unnecessary, IMO. There is no competitive pressure to do so and bringing the ASP up is how they are keeping the "numbers go up" magic working. A 4080Ti only diverts sales away from the 4090.
