My expierences with this heatsink were posted here; http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1708251&enterthread=y

AC emailed me back the same day, offering me an exchange if I wanted, "at no cost to you". So I was pleased with that.

www.frozencpu.com (where I got it) also replied back to my email, saying that they are aware of the problem.

All in all I am very happy with it. If I could just find a dang chipset heatsink/fan that was quieter than my horribly loud stock one. :(

Thanks Ackmed.

I'll answer one of the questions in your other post:

As you can see, there are plastic barbs that secure the backside heatsink. I got no such parts with mine. I looked on AC's website, and saw no such parts either. How does it attach to a 6800?

The 6800's don't have RAM chips on the back, so there is no such bracket.

Ah, so this is new to the GTX's then.

Anyone know where I can buy some barbs? They cant be much money I wouldnt think. The plate simply wont stay on by itself.

Well, if the Silencers will fit on my mobo without obstructing the SATA plugs, I think I'm just going to pick up some small nuts and bolts (or screws) to attach the back plate. I might even try to find plastic ones. Either way, I would imagine that just about any hardware store would have something that will work. I think I'd prefer that option over the barbs anyway because that will allow me to adjust the tightness of the plate, plus I will be able to use thermal compound instead of the pads.

Anyone who got their's already, can you comment about sound? The main reason I just ordered one was because of noise in my system since the small stock fan of the Geforce 7800GTX is to darn loud for my tastes. While it will be nice to be able to overlock a bit more than I am getting now, I mainly want a quiet PC since it sorta a HTPC as well.

It does not obstruct it at all. I run my 7800GTX w/ AC Silencer in PCI-E Slot 2 without any issues on my A8N Premium mobo.

As for quietness, again, I noticed no real difference between my stock hsf and the AC SIlencer 5 during Win XP operation. Only during bootup could you hear a difference, where the stock ones were a little loud because they ran at full speed.

Its quieter than the stock fan. I dont have any db ratings. I dont know if you read my other thread, but I had problems with mine. The wires were backwards, so I had to fix them. To test it I hooked it up to a PSU, to test if it worked or not. It did.

So I then hooked up the stock fan, and it is louder. Not by a huge margine, but its noticable. Again, I have no db numbers, just an average Joe's hearing test.

I haven't gotten my Rev.3's yet, but the Rev.1 I had on my 6800GT was really, really quiet.

Which fans are you using in your V2000? I just got a V1200+, and I wasn't overly impressed with the noise level of this case. The case fans are much louder then the KO's. I don't think it would be possible to discern between different gpu coolers with my case, but you might be running something different. Are you using the ones that came with the case?

They offered, but why would I? They dont include barbs to hold on the back plate. And the thermal tape just isnt good enough.

I have the Zalman CNPS9500 on the CPU, the two stock 120mm's on the back and front of the case. The chipset fan, PSU fan, and Silencer.
