Nvidia has a NEW FOLDING Team (team whoopass).

I have done an analysis of their point production to try to get a rough idea of what the new GPU2 client can produce:
http://*****/forums/fo...ent-first-numbers.html

Please feel free to comment here or in that forum on my analysis and what these numbers mean for both the scientific production and the points for teams involved.

The really interesting part will be to see how Stanford decides to "benchmark" the work and what kind of PPD is awarded.

I've seen way too much to believe they will be able to reallize that scoring one client in a way that eclipses all others is not a good idea (consider QMD and SMP lavishness)

I hope they don't alienate too many (more) folders

those cards were designed for high-intensity usage like folding, and they will certainly shine at it. If my 3870 gets 2000ppd (when it's working :frown:) then I don't think that 6000-7000 is unreasonable for a gtx 280.

Sid, Stanford also raised the GPU point value by 50% last week after a bunch of people complained on the Folding Forum. It was a combination of the high power consumption, and the high volume of work produced by GPUs.

Running GPU2+SMP on my machine nets 4500-5000 PPD. A next gen card (or two!) and a more aggresive overclock will definitely allow folks to get 6-8k out of a single box.

Sounds like a lot of points

each of my quads has a 8800GTS, sounds like SMP and GPU2 will be my path. I hope not too many more of the non-quad, non-cuda GPU people quit F@H.

(I average just under 4K PPD with two SMPs on each quad, so it sounds like a single SMP and a GPU2 will bump each up for another 1K or so each.... we'll see when it gets here)

I think the p500x WUs are worth 98 points each.

It looks like there are some early unit ends, at least the client sends in what it has done, unlike the SMP client which just deletes EUEs

The ATI client has been pretty stable and reliable, GLeeM. Some of its code is being reused in the nVidia version.

I think WinSMP is just the bastard child of the project ;) I get the impression that the Mac & Linux SMP clients are better behaved.

I am getting 4233.6 PPD with my overclocked 8800 GTS 640. Some overclocked 8900GTX are doing aroung 6000PPD. I will have to say that there must be an issue with the setup in that link. I would expect to see a much higher number than that.
