NV 5 Silencer Raised my Temps!!

I recently installed a NV 5 Silencer on my Evga 6800gt graphics card to try and reduce the temp on my graphics card. However, since installing it it was raised my idle temps from 60c to 69c and my in game temps from 75c to 85c. I used Arctic Silver 5 on the gpu and the provided paste on the ram. I even did the same process twice making sure that i got an even coat of arctic silver on the gpu. Every other review of this product seemed positive and it seemed to drop temps by quite a bit. I was just wondering if i did something wrong in the installation or if anyone else has had this problem.

Clean it up, apply VERY thin layer of AS5 on gpu and ram, seat the sink and tighten till the rubber washers are compressed. Then remove and see what kind of contact the copper is making on the gpu core and ram. There will be an imprint on the copper (hopefully lol). If the imprint of AS5 is very uneven not even touching some areas then time to lap. Mine did the same thing, but it was because I never tightened down the screws tight enough. What I did at 1st was seat the NV5, tighten screws, then went into a rather dark room and held a flashlight up to opposite side of card I was looking at. Look at it from the side and see if any light leaks through where the gpu and ram are suppose to touch the NV5. The NV5's copper base is rough to put it nicely. Lapping is a good idea but not necessary.

Sounds like a buggered installation is causing the high temps. I have that card and cooler and can tell you that it actually reduced my temps. My GPU idle temps went down to around 45C at idle. I used the included compound as the instructions said on all of it. I also used the backing plate from the stock cooler to help brace the AC unit since I read that was better...
