I wish I could make more. The equipment (lathe) is school property. It's kinda tough to get permission from professor that's in charge of it, to do out of school projects like this.

I know this one goes for one of my best friend who can play it better than me. I want to make another one for another best friend of mine.
Then, if I can still persuade the professor, I'll make one for myself..

Tougher to get the permission than to actually make the part. :p

I dont know how expensive a lathe is .. but you should get a loan from your parents .. buy one .. make enough of them to sell and then pay your parents back and then keep stocking up the cash .. they look pretty awesome ...

nunchakucentral.com and nunchakucentral.net are available.. probably some better ones too if you look around. pick up a lathe ($?), some materials ($?), a domain name ($30 or so), and a host (~$10/mo) and sell them puppies online. i bet you'd make some good money. :)

I thought you needed a license of something to own/carry them around? I could be wrong.

if u live in CALI, they are illegal.

but if you can speak CHinese well, you can go to chinatown in LA and they will hook u up. they also sell the swivel and chain there -- u add your own sticks. :)

here in NC they aren't illegal in any shape or fashion ... I've had a pair since I was 6 or 7 ... used to get them at the Karate matches we would go to. (I grew up in and around the South Eastern martial arts circuit) I've been to tournaments in 5 or 6 states. My brother was well known, by the time he was 15 he was fighting in the adult heavy weight class, people would come in from different states just to get to fight him.

There's an easy but crude way of making your own.

you just have to find an old broom stick with the right weight of wood handle. cut off lengths to your specs, drill a hole at the top going down into the barrel and another going crosswise and making sure that they connect.

Get a piece of tough thick string and trial and error the length yourself. Thread the string through the top hole and then pull it out from one of the side holes. Then tie around the handle and knot it. Do the same for the other one and voila, you have your own nunchuks.

They work surprisingly well and are customizable to whatever length you want.
