Running Win 2k on a Dell C610 laptop with an external keyboard. The numlock key always comes on after the user logs in but it doesn't come on at the login window. I've checked the BIOS and set the NumLock setting to Enabled but that didn't seem to do anything. Is there some way to get this to come on to be used when logging on?

I know that on some computers I've built, even if I have enabled the NUMLock setting in BIOS, it still doesn't work when Windows loads. There is a registry hack you can use that works everytime. In your situation though, I don't know if it will work, since when you are logging in, Windows isn't actually fully loaded yet. But you can try. Only do so if you are comfortable editing your registry.

Open the registry and and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard and edit the "InitialKeyboardIndicators" setting. Change the "Value Data" to 2 . This will make Windows use the NUMLock everytime it starts. But, like I said, it may not enable the NUMLock at Login. Hope this helps.
