Numbness in thumb on backside of hand

Ever since i came out of the shower yesterday morning, 3/12/06, i've felt a tingling sensation in my right thumb. It's felt only on the backside of my hand between my knuckles. it's been about 24 hours now and i'm about to make an appointment to see a doctor.

I haven't been laying on it funny or putting any kind of abnormal strain on it. Anyone have any ideas?

hmm that's strange, kinda sounds like a lack of blood to that area of the hand. try drinking a glass of orange juice with about 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Cayenne pepper is amazing when it comes to help blood circulate through the body, it's been know to stop actually stop heart attacks. So maybe if it's a circulation problem you're having that might help.

...of course I'm not a doctor so take this reply with a grain of salt

Have you been peeing alot and drinking a lot of water?
Feeling lethargic lately?

That's how I found out I had diabetes. Except in my case, it was a numbness/tingling in my leg.

nothing out of the norm to be honest. my father was recently diagnosed with diabetes as well.

peeing a lot and drinking a lot of water? wouldn't one pee a lot IF they drank a lot of water anyway?

lol, true. But with diabetics (with out of control diabetes) they are constantly thirsty. You could drink 30-40 ounces of water and still crave more.

Yep. I was drinking a huge jug of water every night. I just couldn't get enough water.

Polydipsia polyuria, ployphagia, daibetic diagnostic triad: basically translated means "many drinks, manu pee's, many meals"
Constant hunger, thirst, micturition can indicate diabetes, these are usually the early and classic s/s. Due to excess blood sugar, body attempts to dilute it by drinking excess fluids, which causes the increased output.... And since the glucose is unable to be used by your cells due to lack of effective insulin you remain constantly hungry.
Its doubtful that the first symptom would be neuropathy of the hand/thumb, more than likely a pinched nerve, ganglionic cyst (minor, usually goes away), pos carpal tunnel type strain. If it persist more than a couple days, see a neurologist (or get referral from your primary).
Safe to take an OTC NSAID )ibuprofen, aceataminophen etc, antiinflammatory analgaesic if you can...the reduction in inflammation may relieve the pressure on nerve, shrinkage of cyst, etc.
