So I *FINALLY* scored a victory with Sprint PCS and they are "allowing" me to leave (see back story in some MichaelD post about wireless services.)
So I hop over to intelenetwireless.com, pick out a Sony Ericsson T616 and fill out the web form for Cingular service. Of course I picked the "port my existing number" option. Order goes through and all told I'm paying $177 for a phone, car charger and leather case/belt-clip, and I'll get $100 back thru a rebate (yeah the Amazon deal was better but I missed out.) I did all this with 1 year contract too (2 years SUCK!)
The next day I get an email from letstalk.com (owner of intelenetwireless) saying there are issues with my number port request and I need to contact them. I call and they said Sprint "denied" the request because "they require verbal or written authorization" to release the number! I told the letstalk.com CSR that no one informed of this earlier, and she said [and I quote] "its bullsh*t--that's not a real policy".
Of course, now I'm fuming at Sprint, because they've already fvcked me raw, but somehow I manage to score the CSR Angel from Heaven (Jennifer #7772). She informs me that number portability is a 'work in progress' and that in order for it to work, all the information between the request form and my account has to match. ALL OF IT. EXACTLY. So if I forget my middle initial on the form and Sprint has it on file, request denied. Or, in my case, if the request form has my social security and Sprint doesn't have one on file, request denied!! So I had to speak to both CSRs and get all the information to match verbally (a phone in each ear, had each CSR read out exactly what they had, with all alphas in CAPS because its CASE SENSITIVE) and now they are resubmitting the port request. Something can still go wrong. Also, if they have to keep trying and too many port requests are submitted in a short period, Sprint places a LOCK on the account and port requests are denied for like A FULL WEEK!!!
This whole thing is fvcked up. They've had SEVEN YEARS TO PREPARE FOR THIS.
