I would think that was pretty obvious given that I've never suggested I was a Republican and I specifically talked in general terms and said I KNOW people who would answer that way. This isn't surprising, it's right after the Republic National Convention, feelings are high for Conservatives.

That's the problem with trying to read too much into party ID, not everyone is as hyper-partisan as you. The poll question isn't "Do you pass the monovillage Republican purity test", it's "Do YOU consider yourself a Republican". People get put in the yes column even if their answer is "Yes, I generally consider myself a Republican, but many of the modern crop of Republican politicians are hypocritical fringe lunatics who scare the crap out of me and are ruining my party, and I wouldn't vote for them even if Obama WAS a socialist." In fact I know several people who would probably answer that way.

It is much more likely that Rainsford and yourself are projecting again.

Obama was given a chance to do as he said he would do in his primary platform plank, which was to bring in change and hope and to fix the economy (even going as far as to say he should not be voted in a second term if he did not fix it AND reduce the deficit by half). He did not fix the economy, did not reduce the deficit AND did not bring in the change and hope he said he would bring in.

Therefor, many who were willing to give Obama a chance are now unwilling to give him a second chance and are self identifying as Republicans.

A soaring stockmarket, advances in productivity, but no one paid any attention to the fact that national wealth was concentrating into too few hands as the middle class was sharing none of the advances of national wealth increases.

As we can fast backward look at the election of 11/1928, when Hoover, a far more competent President than either Harding or Cooledge ran for and won POTUS. As Hoover was in office for only ten months before the predictable crash to happened. And Hoover, with the same inept policies the GOP advocates to day, soon watched unemployment rise to 25%. As GOP policies of a decade accomplished the one thing that big business depended on, as they killed off the customer. As business could offer goods cheaply, but the problem was, no one could afford to buy their products.

There after in 1932 the democrats swept the house, the Senate , and the Presidency as the nation turned decidedly democratic. As the GOP never took the Presidency for another 20 years and never regained the house for 64 years.

I predict if Romney wins the Presidency in 2012, and the GOP wins the house and Senate in 2012, the same Hoover GOP policies will crash the GOP again even more rapidly than Hoover. Because there would go any GOP excuse of blame the democrats.

Having seen the GOP do away with so much of their sanity and credibility, this news strikes me as depressing as hearing that the high school drop out rate has reached an all time high.

A better story would be "Voters from both sides ditch party affiliation in record numbers and decide to judge the issues on their own merit instead of partisan dogma."

Yesterday, what can only be described as a cosmic event took place over the twitterverse as fans and foes of Nicki Minaj doled out their 140 word opinions on the rapper’s supposed endorsement of Republican Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney. Minaj, in her verse on “Mercy” from Lil’ Wayne’s Dedication 4 spit a line that caught the interwebs by storm: "I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/You lazy bitches is fucking up the economy." Immediately following the tape's release many tweeters had biting remarks for the Trinidadian-born star.

"If you like Nicki Minaj and vote for Romney, YOU A STUPID HOE! YOU A- YOU A STUPID HOE!" tweeted @CoreyBreaux. "Nicki Minaj voting for Romney? LMAOOO I think those lace fronts are cutting off the blood flow to her brain" another user @LoveMayaJ tweeted.

Other’s took the opportunity to poke a little fun at Minaj.

"Somebody tell Nicki Minaj...im a Democrat...and im voting for Lil Kim" tweeted @PhillyDaBoss323. "Nicki Minaj endorsed @MittRomney in a new song. But she also mentions hanging out with zombies. So who knows?" added user @rubinafillion.

While many were in an uproar over Nickis raps fellow hip-hop artist Talib Kweli warned fans not to jump to any conclusions.

"Just heard a dude on Hot97 say he won't let his daughter listen to Nicki Minaj cuz she endorses Romney" tweeted Talib. "Really? That's what it took? lol" the rapper joked. "I doubt Nicki seriously supports Romney. Her lyrics ain't political. She just wants y'all to talk about her & she winning cuz it's working!"

Many fans chimed in agreeing with Talib on his suggestion that Nicki's bars were nothing more than just playful raps.

"Anyone who seriously thought Nicki Minaj endorsed Romney should quit writing and learn to understand basic humor tropes" tweeted @AmandaMarcotte.

Several publications also jumped to Minaj’s defense. As Spin.com points out, Nicki has simply joined “a long tradition of rappers comparing themselves to Republicans and neo-cons” noting Nas and Jay-Z’s “ Black Republicans” as a prime example. Furthermore, all those worried twitter fans out there have naught to worry about, according to Gawker’s fact checking. The reality is even if Minaj were endorsing Romney in her verse; all evidence proves that the rapper is not (yet) registered to vote.

Minaj herself seems unaffected by the outcry of tweeters around the globe. The rapper has retweeted a number of fan’s comments regarding her verse in “Mercy," all of which are stunningly positive and conspicuously missing mention of the Mitt-fiasco. She has yet to make a statement herself regarding “Mercy,” her political views, or fans’ reactions.

If you are reading this, Nicki, hang in there, sister. I know what you are going through, they're all just brick liners anyway.
