I disagree, I find that you are a hyper-partisan Democrat that is less than honest about it. I've stated this a number of times and you continue to prove me right.

And that would be an extremely relevant (if not very accurate) observation if I was talking about myself there...

*I'm* not my example of self-identified Republicans who dislike the direction of the party. I would think that was pretty obvious given that I've never suggested I was a Republican and I specifically talked in general terms and said I KNOW people who would answer that way. But good job on seeing through my clever ruse anyways.

I find it interesting that Democrats are always so fast to call Republicans idiots. Especially with how often they lose to the party of "idiots".

Absolutely. No matter majority or minority, the Republicans always seem to get what they want (according to the Dems), and always stop the Dems from their agenda. Hell. There could be 20 Republican's in the senate and the Dems couldnt get anything done. And it would be those 20 Republican's fault, of course ;)

Idiots indeed.

So you are saying that having a record high number of people that self identify as Republicans is a good thing for Democrats.

Got that, good call.

No, because if I had meant that, I could have saved myself a lot of typing (and looking up previous poll results).

This isn't surprising, it's right after the Republic National Convention, feelings are high for Conservatives.

Expect a similar jump for the DNC next week. The question is, will this after convention jump hold through til November?

That's the problem with trying to read too much into party ID, not everyone is as hyper-partisan as you. The poll question isn't "Do you pass the monovillage Republican purity test", it's "Do YOU consider yourself a Republican". People get put in the yes column even if their answer is "Yes, I generally consider myself a Republican, but many of the modern crop of Republican politicians are hypocritical fringe lunatics who scare the crap out of me and are ruining my party, and I wouldn't vote for them even if Obama WAS a socialist." In fact I know several people who would probably answer that way.

Excellent post Rainsford, you've just described the majority of my neighbors...

Excellent post Rainsford, you've just described the majority of my neighbors...

If you actually have neighbors, and if they were Republicans, I highly doubt that they would self describe themselves that way.

It is much more likely that Rainsford and yourself are projecting again.

And if you are projecting, it is likely that you are coming out with your own feelings about who you and your fellow travelers are.

Psychology 101. Don't skip class next time.

More and more people are identifying as Republicans because so many were willing to give Obama a chance.

The Democrat cabal did not care about economic vitality, they went on a spending spree.

And when they held the White House and BOTH houses of Congress, they passed bill after humongous bill without any compromise, all of which had and will have serious negative economic implications.

I see this morning that Obama is losing the rappers. If today it is Nicki Minaj, is it going to be Gnarls Barkley tomorrow?

Nicki Minaj raps: I'm voting for Romney

Nicki Minaj is casting her ballot for Mitt Romney, or at least that’s what she says in a new song.

“I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney, you lazy bitches are fucking up the economy,” Minaj raps in a track called “Mercy" on Lil Wayne’s latest mixtape.

You can listen to the (NSFW) song at Rapdose, the website that first flagged the line about Romney.

Something hit a nerve there! Of course you would doubt it. Info that contradicts your worldview is, of course, incorrect.

Clearly it's unheard of for people to discuss current events with friends that live next door, a woefully partisan e-psychologist told me so! Moderate conservatives in a blue state not liking where the party has gone in the last 12 years? Unpossible!!!

One of our resident trolls accusing someone else of "projecting" lol oh that's rich, especially after that fawning over and defense of Ann Coulter in that other thread, heehee!

You really think people here take you seriously, don't you? ;)

...[/IMG]

This sentence makes no sense.

If you are going to use anecdotal evidence as an indicator of a coming sea of change, you should probably put more effort into being coherent.

Yesterday 3 neighbours told me they were voting for Obama, thus a Democratic victory in November is a foregone conclusion, I like pie.

This sentence makes no sense.

Yes it does.

"More and more people are identifying as Republicans because so many were willing to give Obama a chance."

Obama was given a chance to do as he said he would do in his primary platform plank, which was to bring in change and hope and to fix the economy (even going as far as to say he should not be voted in a second term if he did not fix it AND reduce the deficit by half). He did not fix the economy, did not reduce the deficit AND did not bring in the change and hope he said he would bring in.

Therefor, many who were willing to give Obama a chance are now unwilling to give him a second chance and are self identifying as Republicans.

I look forward to the Republican cheerleaders on this forum getting the presidency, and majorities in the House and Senate... and watching how it will (as it has done in the past) blow up in their faces with the Republicans running amok with their newfound lock on the federal government.

Maybe then they'll stop advocating for one party to win more power than it deserves... and instead advocate for divided government.

If they do that they'll spend a lot of money. After all the debt is a talking point when there is a Democratic President however when they decide where the money is going they'll lavish tons of money on their favorites.

All I want to do is point out history, After WW1, the USA went Republican and initially it went great. A soaring stockmarket, advances in productivity, but no one paid any attention to the fact that national wealth was concentrating into too few hands as the middle class was sharing none of the advances of national wealth increases.

As we can fast backward look at the election of 11/1928, when Hoover, a far more competent President than either Harding or Cooledge ran for and won POTUS. As Hoover was in office for only ten months before the predictable crash to happened. And Hoover, with the same inept policies the GOP advocates to day, soon watched unemployment rise to 25%. As GOP policies of a decade accomplished the one thing that big business depended on, as they killed off the customer. As business could offer goods cheaply, but the problem was, no one could afford to buy their products.

There after in 1932 the democrats swept the house, the Senate , and the Presidency as the nation turned decidedly democratic. As the GOP never took the Presidency for another 20 years and never regained the house for 64 years.

I predict if Romney wins the Presidency in 2012, and the GOP wins the house and Senate in 2012, the same Hoover GOP policies will crash the GOP again even more rapidly than Hoover. Because there would go any GOP excuse of blame the democrats.

Well, the GOP will have at least 3 1/2 years to blame the Dems for their increased spending, lack of movement on anything, and a bland recovery.

Whats good for the goose....

But it was never good for the goose. It would be hypocritical for the GOP to do what the Democrats have done when the tables turn.

We should expect more of our political parties and ourselves, not excuse or rationalize behavior by saying "well the other side did it too!"

Usually this kind of news would make me feel "meh..."

Having seen the GOP do away with so much of their sanity and credibility, this news strikes me as depressing as hearing that the high school drop out rate has reached an all time high.

A better story would be "Voters from both sides ditch party affiliation in record numbers and decide to judge the issues on their own merit instead of partisan dogma."
The vast majority of politicians are going to claim support for whatever polls best for them and are going to do whatever the party wants; issues have become the party.

A guy that votes Democrat in the last 2 elections shouldn't self identify as a Republican. It isn't that tough of a question.
Many, many lefties do this. "I'm a conservative" and then proceed to bash everything associated with conservatism. Some are probably just too stupid to be self-aware but most are definitely trying to steal some measure of gravitas.

Sad but true.

Many, many lefties do this. "I'm a conservative" and then proceed to bash everything associated with conservatism. Some are probably just too stupid to be self-aware but most are definitely trying to steal some measure of gravitas.

That must be it. I have never seen so many claim to be contrary to what they really are.

In some sense they must be deeply ashamed, whether of their own recognized faults or those of their peers.

So the Martian Barbie voting block is Mitt's . . .

I know I was positing that Nicki Minaj could have represented one of our very own leftists here, the image just wouldn't escape my mind.

Now that I know that Nicki is a Romney fan and hates tax and spenders, well, I cannot in good conscience continue that inferred association.

Nicki has left the plantation and the plantation dwellers are upset.

Nicki Minaj Voting For Mitt Romney? Fans, Talib Kweli Weigh In

By Victoria McCarthy

nicki.jpg

Yesterday, what can only be described as a cosmic event took place over the twitterverse as fans and foes of Nicki Minaj doled out their 140 word opinions on the rapper’s supposed endorsement of Republican Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney. Minaj, in her verse on “Mercy” from Lil’ Wayne’s Dedication 4 spit a line that caught the interwebs by storm: "I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/You lazy bitches is fucking up the economy." Immediately following the tape's release many tweeters had biting remarks for the Trinidadian-born star.

"If you like Nicki Minaj and vote for Romney, YOU A STUPID HOE! YOU A- YOU A STUPID HOE!" tweeted @CoreyBreaux. "Nicki Minaj voting for Romney? LMAOOO I think those lace fronts are cutting off the blood flow to her brain" another user @LoveMayaJ tweeted.

Other’s took the opportunity to poke a little fun at Minaj.

"Somebody tell Nicki Minaj...im a Democrat...and im voting for Lil Kim" tweeted @PhillyDaBoss323. "Nicki Minaj endorsed @MittRomney in a new song. But she also mentions hanging out with zombies. So who knows?" added user @rubinafillion.

While many were in an uproar over Nickis raps fellow hip-hop artist Talib Kweli warned fans not to jump to any conclusions.

"Just heard a dude on Hot97 say he won't let his daughter listen to Nicki Minaj cuz she endorses Romney" tweeted Talib. "Really? That's what it took? lol" the rapper joked. "I doubt Nicki seriously supports Romney. Her lyrics ain't political. She just wants y'all to talk about her & she winning cuz it's working!"

Many fans chimed in agreeing with Talib on his suggestion that Nicki's bars were nothing more than just playful raps.

"Anyone who seriously thought Nicki Minaj endorsed Romney should quit writing and learn to understand basic humor tropes" tweeted @AmandaMarcotte.

Several publications also jumped to Minaj’s defense. As Spin.com points out, Nicki has simply joined “a long tradition of rappers comparing themselves to Republicans and neo-cons” noting Nas and Jay-Z’s “ Black Republicans” as a prime example. Furthermore, all those worried twitter fans out there have naught to worry about, according to Gawker’s fact checking. The reality is even if Minaj were endorsing Romney in her verse; all evidence proves that the rapper is not (yet) registered to vote.

Minaj herself seems unaffected by the outcry of tweeters around the globe. The rapper has retweeted a number of fan’s comments regarding her verse in “Mercy," all of which are stunningly positive and conspicuously missing mention of the Mitt-fiasco. She has yet to make a statement herself regarding “Mercy,” her political views, or fans’ reactions.

If you are reading this, Nicki, hang in there, sister. I know what you are going through, they're all just brick liners anyway.
