Number of processors

Something strange just hit me. I thought that the different version of Windows was bound to different processor numbers.

Win 2k/XP Home 1 Processor
Win 2k/XP Pro 2
Win 2k/XP Server 4
etc..

Yet when I enable hyperthreading on my Win XP Pro machine (effectivly giving the machine 4 CPU's) Win XP happily reports four processors and shows me four CPU traces.

Shouldn't it complain and make me want to use server??

They probably have a way to tell that you're using HT and not 4 physical processors.

XP detects HT, Win2K does not.

So, if you try to run Win2K Pro with 2 HT capable CPU's, it will likely complain.

There was a thread on this not too long ago. Do a search and you should get some more information on it. :)

Guess DCaladin missed the part where he said he has the new Xeons with HT that make each processor appear to be 2 processors...

You mean read the entire thread before posting? How do you get your postcount up to my levels if you do that?
