Next to my avatar, it says I have 216 posts total. Ditto on my profile page. But since I am not a "Senior Member" yet, I got curious as to why. That's when I noticed that when I click on "My Forums" it says:

You joined the forums on 11/29/1999, you average 0.10 message posts per day with a total of 178 messages posted to the forums.

So where are these two different totals coming from? Obviously, the low one is being used to calculate my member title, but it is the other, higher total that is displayed in my profile and by my avatar.

Is this a bug? And if so, can I be promoted to "Elite" for finding it? ;) (j/k)

EDIT: Here's a pic of the "My Forums" page

Weird! I think when a post is deleted maybe your post count decreases, maybe those values are stored in diff variables?

Hmm.. I did join the site almost 4 years ago, probably made ~40 posts (I seem to be missing 38), then kinda forgot my username/password. It wasn't until a few months ago that I successfully logged back in and started posting here again. Maybe those original posts from years back got lost in all the upgrades and such? I did have to get Jason Clark to change my username, as it had an invalid character. I bet that could be part of it - I have this account that has had 2 different names associated with it.

As far as deleted posts, I don't think I have any, and if I do, certainly not 38 of them! ;)

I know, both of those match. It's the line on the "My Forums" page that shows 38 less posts than the others.

Ok, I finally acheived "Senior Member" status when my under-my-avatar post count hit 238 and my "My Forums" post count hit 200, so I know which one is being used for my title. Still not sure why they differ, however.

Does one of those counts include PMs, and one only include posts to the forums? I always wondered how that worked, and if you could "game" the post-counts, by PM'ing a lot between friends. (I didn't try it, I don't PM much.)

I'm fairly certain not. I don't abuse the PM system heavily by any means, but I do use it enough that I'd probably notice if it did something to my postcount. ;)

Do a search through the archive posts. I'd bet you'll find his missing posts. ALL old threads get archived and the lower total is probably only totalling the newer posts that are still searchable with specifically searching the archive.

I don't think that's the case at all... or else I'd have a much lower postcount also. I've been here for a few years now, and certainly the greater majority of my 11K+ posts have been archived by now.
