The inventory review, which will involve thousands of items, is due to Gates in 60 days. Pentagon officials said the request was ordered, in part, because this latest incident comes after the August 2007 accidental flight of six nuclear-tipped cruise missiles on a B-52 bomber across the country.

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that he feels it necessary to give 60 days to account for all our nukes. With them being such high value items with dire consequences upon loss, I would expect we should be able to provide an accurate inventory within hours.

Well, not necessarily. Also, it says an inventory review. We really dont know what that entails.

Also, in the article it says "calls for all items to be accounted for by serial number". That could NOT happen in hours. I would imagine it involves hand checking every single one.

probably should have implemented a better method for taking inventory if that is the case..

Like what? Wouldnt you rather have each and every one accounted for by having it looked at? What would you suggest?

I doubt he's talking about an inventory of only nuclear weapons. He's probably talking about every piece of equiptment even related to them, such as the fuses we recently sent to Taiwan.

i wonder if there is any truth in this. could there be one missing???

WMR(wayne madsen report) has previously reported on the August 30, 2007, incident in which five or six nuclear weapons were supposedly misplaced on advanced cruise missiles attached to the pylons of a B-52 that flew from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, was actually the result of an Air Force revolt against deploying the weapons to the Middle East for use in a surprise attack on Iran.

A number of knowledgeable sources have told WMR that six nuclear-armed cruise missiles left Minot but only five were accounted for at Barksdale.

I've heard several reports similar to that. However, none of them were really all that credible. I've also read that several of the crew members involved in the flight have met "accidental" deaths since the incident.

accidental deaths!!!! what kind of deaths......heart attacks perhaps?? damn, kinda like when that cia interogation of some terroriest lead to a pakistani airforce, and several saudi arabian acciental deaths!!!

"He named two other Saudi princes, and also the chief of Pakistan's air force, as his major contacts. Moreover, he stunned his interrogators, by charging that two of the men, the King's nephew, and the Pakistani Air Force chief, knew a major terror operation was planned for America on 9/11.

It would be nice to further investigate the men named by Zubaydah, but that is not possible. All four identified by Zubaydah are now dead."

Here's an interesting write up on the B-52 flight and the "accidental" deaths as well as a thorough review of the procedures required to get those nukes loaded on the plane. If there's any merit to this, I'd fear that a mere inspection will be insufficient.

Article is interesting but as with any good conspiracy write up it makes a lot of unfounded conclusions.
