Nuke a hard drive :)

What is the best way for format a hard drive. I have always installed the XP CD and chose to format the drive to NTFS as the prompt. My brother has loads of spyware and viruses on his system and I tried to format the drive with the XP CD.

The system worked find but, acted very buggy and had pop-ups even though there wasn't an internet connection???? I attempted to download some spyware software but his computer will not connect to the internet except at dial up speed on a broadband connection (behind a firewall).

I would download a utility from the drive's manufacturer and zero out the drive.

Thank you Buk... I wasn't sure of the manufacturer. My brother owns a Dell (whatever they buy in bulk for the $500 PC's 😛)

So you already formatted and reloaded?

sounds like you need to patch the box before you connect it to the net and get slammed with worms/viri
