Nudity in gym sauna?

I've gone to this gym for about fifteen months and in that time I've noticed progressively more men going into the sauna and steam room with nothing on at all or just briefs. The sauna and steam room are in the locker rooms, so it's not like women or children would be in there, but still...don't you think this is poor etiquette? I've been to numerous gyms and never seen anything like that

I have no idea, I don't go to gyms. I would guess that being nude is a more European sensibility. I doubt they get too hung up on it. Maybe you're in a progressive part of town. Either that, or the gym went gay on you :^D

I have only used saunas in Europe...and there, people are all naked, sitting on towels. They are also mixed gender with people aged 5 to 90.

Lol. I always found it so odd when North Americans complain about the nude thing. Seriously. Get over it. We are all guys, we all have cocks, most of us aren't gay, who cares?

I went through 5 years of high school and no one ever showered because they were "embarassed", so instead everyone smelled like shit the entire day in school.

I went to the pool with some Canadian friends and they were all trying to cover themselves up with towels, wtf?

I think a lot of it has to do with being self confident in terms of sexuality. Where I'm from, it's not uncommon to kiss a guy and hug him when you know them really well and haven't seen them in a long time, here it's like taboo.

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George doesn't want to get a massage from a male because he "might" get excited. That was comedy but yet it's so true.

People are prudes in this country. Hot springs and saunas are nude in Japan. Just watch out for tentacles...

It's okay if it moved while you were in there. Maybe it just wanted to change positions, shift to the other side?

Yep, Americans have this odd dual-personality when it comes to sex: It is everywhere yet it is nowhere.

I personally practice a nudist lifestyle when on vacation in Europe at spas or beaches, etc.

And BTW, nude <> sex.

If there are other people in the sauna with me, I just make sure to explain to them that the pool was cold and some shrinkage is naturally going to occur.

the nudity wouldn't bother me, but bare asses on the benches would. do they at least lay a towel down?

Really..... I am not alright with a guys sweaty ass and junk sprawled out on a bench that I might set down on in the future.

Nope, not alright with that at all........

In the Army, in Germany, we wore towels. But the Polizei shared the gym with us and they went naked in the sauna.

Afraid of a sympathetic reaction?

It's OK, just don't check out their penises.

The way I look at it, I'm not interested in what they have. And if there were females, all the better.

"I was in the pool! I WAS IN THE POOL!"

At the two gyms where I've been a member most people who used the saunas/steam rooms did so in the nude and simply sat upon a towel. A few guys here and there actually wore the towels, either way, it was never a big deal.

As a little kid in the mid 80s (~5yo), I discovered that this was the norm at the Newnan Racquetball and Health Club. I've stayed away from saunas ever since. Did it suddenly become less normal?
