A developing story. But hundreds of authentic nude photos of celebs were leaked earlier today on the web.

Celebrities deserve some degree of privacy, though obviously not as much as completely private citizens who aren't trying to be attention whores to further their careers. Still, why on earth would anyone stored "extreme" photos of themselves on the web? Is it really that difficult to use flash memory and backed-up hard drives?

Makes one wonder why people store nude photos of themselves in the cloud

Honestly, of you are a caleb, I think you should plan on any nsfw pic/conversation/whatever being stolen someway, somehow.

Is wrong, but way too much motivation/incentives for it not to happen.

Yeah. Sorry, but you're an idiot if you store any personal info out on the cloud.

I've seen them, it's a whole lot of nothing special. I don't get in to celebrity culture so I don't see how it's a big deal. I do find it interesting that DMCA take-downs are flying because it demonstrates the ridiculousness of our system. Tweens go to jail for creating child porn (or are driven to suicide by their "friends" who are probably doing the same thing), mere adults are shamed behind their backs, and legions of twitter followers compile lists of offending websites so takedown orders can be issued when a celebrity is shown to be doing what everyone else does. All the while no one learns the simple lesson - don't put your naked pictures on the internet.

This day and age one has to expect that anything that is somehow connected to the internet is not private anymore. Your pictures, emails, texts... Everything has the ability to be shared with the masses.

My whole thought is Who Cares? My second thought is if you take and store naked pictures anywhere you are taking a risk.

With all the pictures of celebrities in bikini's and lingerie, there is not much left to the imagination.

Lot of conversation about "blaming the victims" and all that crap going around. To me, putting intimate/private stuff on the internet is like leaving a laptop or tablet in your car at night, parked outside in a not-so-good neighborhood. Sure, nobody has the right to break into your car and steal stuff, those who do it are criminals, but you have to at least acknowledge that putting such valuables in plain sight in your car is a stupid thing to do. The internet is essentially one giant "not-so-good" neighborhood when it comes to theft of information or digital stuff.

If you are a celeb, your pics are even more valuable, so you should be even more careful with where you store them and who gets access to them.

I doubt most celebrities understand that their pictures (and other files) are being stored on the Internet. Indeed, I doubt most people really understand that; they aren't tech experts. They just leave the little box checked that says "Sync all my devices" with no idea how it works behind the scenes.

Well, at least until a couple of days ago. Millions of people just got an education with the wall-to-wall coverage in the pop media.

Apple now claims this was NOT an iCloud service hack, but rather targeted attacks looking for weak passwords and security questions. If so, this would be similar to the way some celebs' Gmail accounts were hacked. It will be interesting to see if that story holds up.

I was just watching the news on this and they were saying the FBI is going to go after anyone who actively seeks out the pictures online and tries to redistribute or share with anyone else online? How are they going to stop a flood? LOL

Internet, CB radios.....same thing.

Methinks some of our attention starved celebrities actually want their nekkid pics hacked, seeing as if they're already predisposed to be extroverted exhibitionists.

I think there is a general lack of education on this. For example, my wife thinks that uploading everything to Picasa is fine. Sure, she has a strong password, but I told her that I would prefer it to be on a disconnect HDD backed up by dvd. She didn't believe me.

Now I think she gets it more.

We were given a Dropcam for our 3rd kid. She wanted to sign up for the cloud recording. Hell no.

I told her that the second it leaves this house you can't count on it being private.

Exactly. That's how all such services should be viewed. The minute information goes out somewhere, you have effectively lost control over it. Your security depends on how well someone else secures their servers etc. In most cases, that's not a problem, it's a tradeoff that is worth making for the sake of convenience, but not when it comes to *ahem* private matters or critical information.

Those laws were meant for protecting victims, not for attacking selfies.

It'd be retarded to prosecute her for anything of herself.

Doesn't it happen quite often when we are talking about non-celebrity teens?

If the puck are just nudes they are legal no, but if they show sex acts real or simulated the would be a solid yes.

From the article:
TMZ reports that the star’s lawyer has successfully forced x-rated site Porn.com to remove the images citing that McKayla was under the age of 18 when some of the photos were taken

If the photos are not illegal why do they have to be taken down?
