was watching the preview for 24 last night and they had somebody talking about something nuclear, and they pronounced it "nucular"...seriously, is it really that hard of a word to pronounce??? nu-clee-er...get it right dammit!!!!

side note from dictionary.com
Usage Note: The pronunciation (noo-kye-ler), which is generally considered incorrect, is an example of how a familiar phonological pattern can influence an unfamiliar one. The usual pronunciation of the final two syllables of this word is (-klee-er), but this sequence of sounds is rare in English. Much more common is the similar sequence (-kye-ler), which occurs in words like particular, circular, spectacular, and in many scientific words like molecular, ocular, and vascular.

He did it in last week's show a few times as well. The funny thing is, I was more disappointed and angry that an actor playing the secretary of defense couldn't pronounce it than our real, living, president of the us.

I can't place the political leanings of that show. Sometimes, it seems they want to slam the current admin (like with that "nucular" remark and the torture aspect going on with his son) and other times it seems pretty rah-rah.

I was just commenting on that to my mother. It seems that having a President who can't pronounce the word "nuclear" any better than Homer Simpson has had a trickle-down effect. Ah well . . .
