They probably had an "Oh Sh!t" moment when they realized they wouldn't be able to effectively replace the power from those 7 reactors.

the "green party" was part of the coalition that was in power at that time.
after the last elections, they aren't anymore

the new strategy is now to build a huge wind turbine park in the North Sea (200 km²) that will provide 10% of all electricity in Belgium. Construction will begin this year and together with the nuclear energy should provide us with 70% of total electricity production coming from "clean" sources (nuclear + wind)
