ntoskrnl.exe corrupted

On bootup, I get the following error message:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I am using windows 2000 and so far all attempts to copy the file from the win2k cd have failed. I get an error saying access denied, when trying to copy/expand the file from the cd to the c:\windows\system32 folder. I'd like to check this, does anyone know the specific command line to use?

Also, this problem began when I tried to remove some of the "select OS" option on boot, and I believe i accidentally selected the wrong one. Is there any advice anyone can give me on this problem? Windows 2000

try this

ive had this issue before and was able to fix it by manually editing the boot.ini file after doing a repair off the original cd. the link above may be able to help you and also has some info on how to rebuild your boot.ini file as well. good luck.
