here is the problem. i took my 40g wd hard drive with windows xp installed out of a compaq preserio computer and changed the motherboard to a asus a7v133.when i turned on the computer it gives me the ntldr missing message. i would like to know if something could be done to solve this problem besides formatting the hard drive?

thank you

there should be a ntldr file on your winxp cd.copy that to a floppy disk. then boot off your winxp cd and it will offer you the option to repair xp manually.when you do this just copy the ntldr file to your c: drive and it should work

If MiExStacY's suggestion doesn't work, try booting into the repair console. You may need to repair your MBR to match the newer location, it may be picking up the ATA controller (if you have the raid model), or it may not see the newer IDE controller and is in need of a driver first, in which a restorative setup may be required. Try MiExStacY's idea first though.
