Ok I built a new computer this weekend and when i started up the computer to try ad install the OS I would get a messege saying NTLDR is missing. I took the computer to Frys and the guy told me i need to change my primary bootdevice to my hard drive, seconardy to cd-rom, and third to floppy. He should me what he did and it worked fine, I got home and noticed the changes hadn't changed so I tried to do what he did and now when I start up the computer I get NTLDR is missing again. Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't get it I set the settings in the bios how he showed me but it doesn't work. Thanks in advanced for the help!🙂

assuming you just have one of each , hard drive - cd rom , i would place them on seperate IDE channels . 1 ribbon each. make sure that each is set to single or master depending on what the drives maker says for that config. set the bios to boot the cdrom first. i'm guessing it's winXP ? and it IS a bootable disk and not an upgrade ?
now watch while it's posting and it should say BOOT FROM ATAPI CDROM
then PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CDROM
press a key and hopefully you'll be set
good luck

Fry's guy was wrong.

NTLDR is missing means that the partition bootsector can't find NTLDR.

Perhaps you have the wrong partition marked active.

Perhaps when you installed Windows XP, you have "virus protection" turned on in the BIOS which prevents writing to the MBR (which is required to mark the correct partition active.)

Format a floppy under Windows 2K or XP. Do not use a quick format. Copy ntdlr, ntdetect, and boot.ini from the root of the C: drive to the floppy. Edit boot.ini if needed. Boot to floppy.
