NTLDR missing, upgrade (Win98 to W2K) on IBM T21

Okay, I just got this laptop (IBM T21) with Win98. I tried do a clean install of W2K Pro on it, but I'm stuck with the
"NTLDR is missing" thing. I've gone and got the 4 bootable floppys, but it still gets hung, whether I do it with the floppys or off the CD. Does anybody have any insight as to what to do?
