Open the case and check all cables

then

The first thing you need to do is test the hard drive with bootable media et al floppy/cdr. You should be able to download diagnostic software from the Hard Drive manufacturer's web site. Alternatively you could test it in another pc to see if it is functional. If the drive is bad that would cause the error

BIOS
Does the drive show up on post?
boot drive order set right?

If all of the above check OK, it is time to reinstall windows, or repair. I would opt for a clean install.

I am assuming that your post below this questions means that there is no floppy in the drive? If there is take it out, as that would cause the error msg you are getting if the boot order is set to read from the floppy first.

This means that your windows boot files have been currupted or erased somehow. If you have a windows install disk use FIXBOOT in the recovery console. Might need to do a FIXMBR, if that fails, and if all else fails do a repair windows install.

This means that ntldr is either missing damaged, or windows is looking in the wrong place for it.

From recovery console grab a copy of it off CD or floppy and drop it in the root of your drive. Run a chkdsk /p to be sure there is no file system damage preventing it from being read.

While you are there, run the following:

type \boot.ini

and then run:

map arc

Compare the output of the two to be sure your boot.ini is pointing to the right location.
