NTFS vs FAT32

I'm in the process of building up a new system. Is there a site that briefly discusses the pros and cons of each of the file systems above? I've been told by a few of my networking friends that NTFS is stable and more secure than FAT32. However, if I want greater compatibility especially with older programs, FAT32 is the way to go. This new system that I am building is for my home personal use. I'll be using it mainly with MS Office, internet surfing and games (many pre 2000). Has anyone used NTFS and installed older games (example: Doom, MS arcade games) without any problems?

The file system has no effect on software compatibility, with the exception of some disk management software. Other than that software is completey unaware of what file system is being used.

Wasn't there a guide done on this?

Anyways - other than disk defrag and drive imaging appz (plus a few others) - they will never know what file system your comp uses... Use NTFS and enjoy all the new features available to you...

Thanks for the help and information (especially the link to the faq article). I'll be going to the NTFS system. I have no plans on dual-booting which seems to be the main reason for staying with FAT32.

Your best choice is NTFS if you are on a stand alone OS. I just installed Winxp on top of my Win98SE and
Win2k Pro. The only way I could keep things in order is to stay with FAT32 across the board. Last I read
there is no performance increase using one over the other. I think Andy did a FAQ awhile back.
