I have a 20GB Maxtor 7200rpm HD, formatted to NTFS by Windows 2000 Pro, now can I go back to FAT32? Need your help........will FDISK work? or do I have to use a third party software?( of course, I don't mind wiping out my Windows 2000 etc....)

Thanks..

I tried without having to format and the only way is partition magic. Parition Magic didn't work on all my drives, but it worked on my C: so I could reinstall win2k and access the NTFS partitions. Fdisk will recognize the partition as NTFS but treat it as non dos. So the only way with fdisk is if you don't want to save any info.

Your not going to be able to format that HD in order to remove NTFS. I removed Win2000 and went back to Win98 (fat32) succesfully last night. THe instructions are a bit long to write here, but go to the MS support site and do a search on

You bascially have to get into the Windowws2000 Recovery Panel , adminsitration area during boot up and type in :

map

format x: /fs:fat32
(x=drive you want fat 32 on)

"convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs", this is the command to convert it from the command prompt.
