NTFS problem

I have winXP in NTFS drive. I have to reinstall the windows. But after formatting the drive I cant install new windows because I see my previous windows is not deleted and it suggests me to delete partition and make new one. This is not only my problem but many of my friends'.

what's the matter? you're gonna reinstall windows ...

You cannot "Reinstall Windows from within Windows."

Set the BIOS to boot from the CD Rom
Boot to the Win XP CD rom
Do a new install
DELETE whatever partitions the setup program finds that have Windows on it
Create a partition, format in NTFS (do the normal format, not "QUICK") and install WinXP to that partition
