NTFS or VFAT?

OK - I learned that to create a disk partition - I need to set the partition to NTFS or VFAT file system. For Linux to read from and write to the Window OS disk - the Windows OS partition must be VFAT.

Can the windows parititon be changed to VFAT - and what are the disadvantages of changing it to VFAT?

Check the AnandTech FAQ for NTFS, and also search here and Operating Systems for NTFS; you'll find a good deal of info on FAT vs. NTFS, and the answer to your question.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Do you already have Windows installed? If so, are you already using NTFS?

If you are trying to read/write to the Windows side of you drive while in Linux, you not be using NTFS. Linux support for NTFS just isn't on the same level as FAT.
