NTFS networked to FAT 32

My wife's computer and mine are networked through phone lines. We are running WIN ME now. I plan to move to WIN XP first and then later move my wife's machine to XP. When I go to XP I intend to go to NFTS vice Fat 32. Will I still be able to network to my wife's machine?
We only share internet acess through an ISP and a 56K modem.🙂
