So yeha,

I'm away at school for a week and my parents have already killed their computer. Starts booting XP and just restarts, blue screen can be seen for a second.

Pop the drive into another machine, try to brows the HD, says somthing like "File system Corrupt"

I'm not really trying to save the install since it dosent matter, however i would like to get some files off the computer if possible.

Any help appreciated.

tried it, seemed to work, but then it got to 26% and it sat for a day......

Possibly I'll try again.

can you tell us what the blue screen says exactly.... is it something about the 'software' file ?

Wish i could, it flashes for a very short time.

It says "File system corrupt" when i put the drive in as secondary on a diff machine and i try to browse its files.

try to update the BIOS on the Computer
it often help with WinXP because of the
interpretation of hardware layer

it might not be a HDD

2. another choice for you reduce the system partition size and
see how it's going to behave

Microsoft's new slogan should be something like "How can we make fixing things harder?", none of their default settings make any sense and very few people know to disable things like the auto-reboot on BSOD.

That won't matter unless it's an extremely old BIOS.
