NT4 Server, Event Viewer, and Disk Manager ??

Here's the deal...

Have an NT4 Server that is running out of storage space on the mirrored (software) 10GB IDE drives. I install a 20GB drive, copy over all the data, remove the 10GB drives, install a 2nd 20GB drive, and setup the mirror. I've doubled my storage space and all is good now.

The only problem is everytime I restart the server it keeps looking for the old mirrored 10GB drives. Is there a way I can tell Disk Manager/Event Viewer that I know they're gone and I don't care? I posted a thread (HERE) over in General Hardware but after 3 times at the top I think it's about to sink again. 🙂

Thanks for any help!

What's the hardware?

Does your (control panel - devices) still think the old drives are there?

NT likes things to be done in a certain order... I'm sure you know if you've been dealing with it for very long at all. 😉

I believe the proper procedure is something like:
1. install your new 20GB drive
2. copy everything from your 10GB to your 20GB
3. break the mirror
4. remove the 10 GB drives from Disk Administrator before physical removal
5. install the second 20GB drive and create the new mirror

This being said, can you put the 10GB drives back in then remove the 10GB drives in disk administrator before physically disconnecting the drives? I've found that step generally makes NT happier. At least that is what I would try.

DanC: I've got an ASUS P3B-F, P3-500, 256MB. HD's are as follows... 2 4GB UW SCSI drives (software mirrored) with the OS and some programs installed. They are in an external hot swapable box. Also have 2 20GB IDE drives (software mirrored) for storage. The 20GB IDE drives replaced a pair of 10GB IDE drives.

What should I look for in devices? The error I'm getting in Event Viewer is related to a missing member of a stripe set and a missing hard drive. Looking in Control Panel | Devices all I see is "ftdisk".

Wiz: Sounds like this is an ID10T error on my part. I didn't remove the drives from Disk Administrator before removing them physically. I've since blown the drives away and installed them in other machines. Is there any other way to tell Disk Administrator not to worry about the missing drives? Registry edit maybe?

Thanks again!

I don't reckon most of us haven't done something equally majestic.
Sorry I don't know the answer - but I'll try to dig it up for you. 🙂

hmmm... have you tried going into disk admin? Do the drives (or a 10GB drive) show up at all? If so (even if it just remembers something that isn't really there) can you right click it and delete or remove? Or highlite it and go through the menu to remove? I don't know if you have tried any of that yet.
