NT4 can't find my NIC. (Update: fixed)

Hello:

On my Win NT4 (w/ SP4) box, I replaced an Asus A7V motherboard with an A7V133, and can not get NT4 to "find" the Netgear FA 310TX NIC. I have tried various slots, and have tried to set up specific PCI slots to use a specific IRQ (IRQ3), but neither of these works. Netgear's diagnostics can not find the NIC, so I'm guessing that it is not "seen" even at the BIOS level. I have removed, rebooted, and reinstalled the NIC several times.

This NIC is "known good" (works in another system when swapped out.) NT4 found this NIC (using the A7V motherboard) with no problem, and I did not need to set up any IRQ exclusions or force an IRQ.

Can anyone help me with this? Maybe I'm missing something simple.

Thanks in advance,

Dennis:confused:

If no, Did you use a differnt network card?

I would recommend the obvious if you have not done this.

Install SP5 and the most current NIC drivers.

Hope this works.

OH, and DO NOT install SP6a. It is like playing russian roulet (sp). Sometimes...most times...everything goes fine. Then, sometimes after the install, you go to reboot and PRESTO!!!! your OS is hosed and unrecoverable (at least by me). Time to reinstall....and it won't go smoothly either. You will have way too much fun if this happens.

Run the diagnostic and setup program that came with the card. this will at least tell you if the hardware recognizes the card as being there and funcioning properly. this will require a dos partition. hopefully the hard drive isnt full of ntsf.

Solved.

The solution involved editing the registry to remove incorrect installation info from a failed attempt at installing the NIC, and I also applied SP5 to NT4 (which I mistakenly thought I had already done.)

Thanks for the help!
