ok what do you do when the machine complains that a service can't start because a file is misssing or corrupt, goint directory services...blah...blah...but directory services won't let you log in, it tries then brings me back to the login screen. the repair function off of the cd doesn't fix anything....

any other options other than rebuild it?

i have ran into this before when it compains thier is no swap file or it is too small; so i was forced to rebuild.

Always make a repair disk with the registry backup.

Hit F8 on boot and go into Directory Services Restore mode.

Directory Services restore wont let you log in, or you forgot your Directory Services Restore Password? Im thinking the later over the former.
Your DS restore Password is not necessarily the same as your admin password.

i had both passwords set the same...besides if the password was typed incorrectly, wouldn't it complain instead of just bringing up the login screen.
