I am setting up a new NT 4.0 workstation and it can not access any of the member servers on the network. It does log onto the domain and can browse the network including PDC, but it can not access any member servers. It is driving me crazy. I have logged on as Admin and users on this machine. I took it out of domain and only used workgroup. I also added Netbeui and then IPX\Spx to protocol, but still nothing. I have reloaded NT twice with same results. Also have created computer name in server and synced as well as deleted and setup computer name through workstation. Still nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

A couple of things to check:

1.) The machine is a member of the domain correct? You can check this by right clicking on network neighborhood and selecting network identification I believe (I don't have it in front of me). If it's not a member, then add it by specifying a domain admin account or adding it through server manager.

2.) Make sure any member servers you are trying to access are also in the same domain

3.) Make sure you are logging into that domain with a domain account that has the appropriate permissions for the shares you are attempting to access.

Forgive me if you've already tried this stuff - but these are a couple things to check.

What exactly do you mean by "can't access member servers?" Do you "see" them in a browse list? What kind of error message are you getting?

Can you NET VIEW these servers? Go to command prompt and type "net view \\SERVERNAME"

What protocols do the servers and clients use? If IP then what are the addresses?

Shoot some info and maybe I can help.

Thanks for the time guys,

OK everything that MarkusG3 has mentioned, I have done.

What I mean by cant access the member server is. I can see the member server in Network neighborhood. When I double click on it It acts as if I have not authinicated to the Domain. (Which I have because I can see all files on the PDC) A logon screen pops up asking me for user name and password. I put in the domain admin account, which is the same account on the member server. It bounces back as if it were not a good account with no error message.

On server running TCP/IP and DLC Protocol
On workstation TCP/IP and net beui as a log shot

Hope this helps and thanks again

Running DHCP, is getting a valid address.
