NT networking compatibility with 98

I've been trying to solve this problem for quite a while. I have NT, and on networks any computer with 98/95 will not show up in the network neigborhood, nor can I map directly to it. I don't really want to mess around with NOVELL netware, but was wondering if there was any way to get NT to access 98 or vice versa. Are there any patches out or anything?

Did you create a user account that is the same as the one on the win98 machine (the account would be the logon id that you use on the win98 machine) on the NT machine?

Are both the NT and 98 machines in the same network neighborhood? Are they assigned IPs in the same subnet (assuming you're using tcp/ip)? Are you able to ping the 98 machines from the NT machines and vice versa?
