NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM unexpected restart (RPC failure) HELP!!

What does this mean? At random times after rebooting (as quick as 2 mins or as long as 2 hours) I get this message, in a dialog box with a red X on it:
--------------------------------------------------------
This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Time before shutdown: 00:00:59

Message
Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly.
--------------------------------------------------------
What is the problem?

I am running Windows XP, not NT, by the way. Every time I get this message Im in a different application.

Please help!
