NT 4 Logon problem and message "Path is too long."

I just re-installed NT4 Workstation on a network computer. I can log in as administrator, however when a user tries to log in, they get the message in a box that has Desktop as the title, "Can't access this folder. Path is too long." Any ideas what to do? I deleted the user's profile and removed and re-attached the workstation to the domain network.

If Windows NT is installed in an NTFS partition on the client computer, and the user does not have at least the default permissions as outlined in the Windows NT Server Concepts and Planning Guide (page 132), errors can occur. For example, if permissions are incorrect on the root of the system directory, the following message
appears: "Can't access this folder-the path is too long." A blank desktop is displayed, and the user's only option is to log off.

That's exactly it. So I have to change the permissions on the root directory? I don't think I have the NT Server Concepts and planning guide.
