NT 4.0 Server Boot Problem

There's an NT 4.0 Server machine that would no longer boot. It has 2 SCSI drives with two partitions(one for the OS and one for data) mirrored. A message would come up when the BIOS first tried to boot the OS saying something like a kernel file was missing. I tried to do an Emergency Repair, but it said it couldn't find the NT install. I tried to install another copy of NT 4.0 Server, but I believe the install said something like the partition wasn't valid. I put in an IDE drive and installed NT 4.0 Server on it. This install of NT 4.0 Server didn't have any problem accessing the data on both of the partitions, so I don't understand why the install had problems with the partitions.

I copied the data over the network to another machine then wiped out all of the partitions on both drives. A fresh install of NT 4.0 Server is running without any problems so far, but I'd like to find out what happened. Any ideas?
