NT 4.0 File Permissions

I'm new to NT servers, so pls bear with me.
We have an NT 4.0 server. I don't really do much with it (someone else takes care of the real technical stuff), except to setup Permissions on folders. I noticed that most, not all, my folders has a "user" called "System" with Full Control rights.
I asked the real tech about this, and this is what he sent me:

"By default, the system account is granted full control to all files on an NTFS volume. Here the system account has the same functional privileges as the administrator account.

NOTE: Granting either account Administrators group file permissions does not implicitly give permission to the system account. The system account's permissions can be removed from a file but it is not recommended."

Ok, here's my question.. what would happen if I removed the System Permissions? (my boss is being paranoid and wants me to remove it, but I'm not sure), wanted to get your peoples thoughts/experiences on this.
thanks!

go ahead and try 😀 but i wouldnt reccomend it, its just what it says it is, system permissions, see how well it runs when the system cant access anything lol.

system account is not a user name, so there is nothing to worry about. No one can log in as system. But removing it shouldn't be a problem. I've done it plenty of times. Just make sure administrators have full control.

I still wouldnt do it, have had problems with some services not working right after yanking the system account, and why remove it anyways, no one can use it to log in.

Thank you all for your responses! As long as I can tell the boss that no one can login as System and change permissions, and it MAY cause problems by removing it, I'm sure she'll tell me to leave it be. Thanks again!

the system "account" is used to grant permissions to some services of OS itself....
an example of a service that is a system service is logging service....

Another good example is the scan engine of a anti-virus software...
