nslookup missing from Windows 8?

Can someone else confirm this? I just get the standard 'program not found' type message at the command prompt on a new Windows 8 laptop.

Yet google doesn't suggest that it should be missing (ie. hordes of people saying 'WTF?').

Odd.

- edit - neither ping or nslookup are recognised as existing programs on a standard user command prompt, but are on an admin prompt. Curiouser and curiouser.

Cant have those pesky users doing network diagnostics to let tech support know whats up, I guess.

I'm sure they marketed the idea as a security feature. Shut down those botnets by using non-admin accounts so the bots cant function well! Too bad every program under the sun doesnt work right unless the user is a local admin anyway, so we've all got root access just to use the damn things.

I just created a local non-password protected standard user account and was able to ping google.com as well as use nslookup.

Edit: On Windows 8, of course.

Windows 8 is not a real OS. it's a kid's toy

OK, so it's something bizarre about a Lenovo Win8 install apparently.

In the course of trying to figure out where the problem lies, I ran SET PATH both at a user prompt and admin prompt. The difference I've spotted is that on the user prompt, the path to the Windows and system32 folders are using %SYSTEMROOT%, whereas on the admin prompt they're set to the actual path name.

I know about %systemroot%, but on my Win7 setup at a user prompt, SET PATH comes out with the actual path as well. Hum, however on both this Win8 setup and my Win7 setup, looking through the environmental variables UI, %systemroot% is used, so I guess the problem doesn't lie there.

On Win8, typing in %systemroot% at a run prompt works as expected.

Is UAC on? On my Windows 7 PC, I see the same behavior when UAC is turned on. Turn it off and that goes away.
