NSA new about the September 11 attack before it even happened!!

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Messages intercepted by U.S. intelligence one day before the Sept. 11 attacks came from telephone conversations between people in Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia, sources said Thursday.

The conversations were in Arabic, but officials are not sure who was talking.
One of the intercepts said, "The match begins tomorrow." The other said, "Tomorrow is zero hour." The intercepts however, were not translated and analyzed until Sept. 12 -- one day after the attacks.
Sources said the intercepts were of sufficient interest that they would have been studied within 48 hours, regardless of the attacks. The translated messages were provided to CNN by several congressional sources and they were discussed at a joint House-Senate intelligence committee meeting Tuesday.

One lawmaker said the intercepts were "the subject of a lot of discussion" during Tuesday's session with three top U.S. intelligence officials.

NSA Director Michael Hayden, FBI Director Robert Mueller and CIA Director George Tenet have testified before the joint panel investigating September 11 for two days.

According to the lawmaker, Hayden was asked why it took the NSA two days to translate the intercepts. His response was that the agency collects a lot of information every day and it would be nearly impossible to translate all of it in a timely manner.

"They get tons and tons of information," this lawmaker said. "I don't think people realize how much information our government collects."

Some U.S. officials said that the messages lacked specifics -- such as who was behind them or what might happen -- and, as such, there was nothing to act on.

CNN has previously reported that the NSA had intercepted some messages shortly before September 11, but the language has not been revealed until now

All of this is old news. The White House will continue to release the crap in dribs and drabs, infecting you like a poison that builds up in your system slowly until you realize that it is too late.

You are doomed.

Feel better now?

Hmmm...somehow I dont think our countries security services couldve stopped this attack with the blurbs the media keeps showing us. Lets get serious here for a second. How can anyone deduct the horrible attack from something as insignificant as "the match begins tomorrow" or "Tomorrow is zero hour." I mean, think about it! Before September 11th, terrorism was a word most associated with the arab - israeli conflict. It only happend to those outside our country. No one, and I mean NO ONE can honestly say that our government couldve known or even suspected something as tragic as the september 11th attack would be pulled off here in the U.S. I believe they thought something was about to go down, but where?? ...and how??? Only those involved with the attacks really knew. This Bull$hit the media is trying to make snowball into a larger and larger issue, is now quite frankly a moot point. As for the politicians in Washington, who are also looking for scapegoats, should look no further than the bathroom mirror in the morning for the true culprit. Who was it voting to cut CIA and NSA budgets when the cold war had been deemed over and our "only" enemy vanquished??? Yep, you guessed it, Congress. So before anyone actually gets upset about this media driven issue...use the gray matter between your ears and think about it.

Your title is misleading. No wait, it is just plain WRONG.

The NSA didn't know about the attack before the 11th. The intercepted the transmissions on the 10th, and didn't translate them till the 12th. So they didn't know SHIITE until the 11th, and they knew more on the 12th.

Get a clue, then post.

Well the White House didn't release this. As a matter of fact they are understandably pissed because it was leaked by Congress and probably gave away some of our intelligence gathering info. Very similar to the leak in 1998 when we had Bin Ladens satellite phone tapped. It was leaked from the intelligence committee and he never used it again. The Congressman and their staffers need to learn how to keep their fuckin' mouths shut when it's appropriate. Somebody in WWII came out with a good saying, I think Churchill, " The number of people who know a secret is probably the square of how many people are supposed to know it." Maybe if someone went to jail they'd get the message.

i mean for real,

what a lame post, and i'm glad i missed the first post.

What does this prove anyhow? I hate American media, i wish someone who has a large impact on society but not in politics says something to shoot down the press.

Who would've thought that "the zero hour" and "the match whatever" was towards us????? If i would've heard that and found out about it i would have thought it was for isreal or some other place. PLUS, do you think they would've thought in less than 24 hours that a damn plane was gonna hit the twin towers?

I really hate the press, i wish they would just tell the news and no opinions. All news titles are misleading, and the stories dragged out. This artice should say, "we got something, but it was too late when we figured it out." "we wouldnt have FIGURED it out unless it happened." I bet they say "zero hour" all the time..............

Sorry to ramble and schtuff, i just get annoyed when people try to blame people for something that should be blamed on the people that did it.

No kidding. Even if it was translated earlier, it's not like someone hears "Tomorrow is zero hour." and instantly knows that the Al Queada plan to hijack 4 airliners and crash them into buildings. :disgust:

t proves Echelon doesnt quite work. Thankfully Echelon 2 is on the way...
That one set off the sarcasm detector.

The Department of Homeland Security is coming, folks, so you can live the high life again. Everything will be hunky-dorey very soon.

sorry forgot the smilies

But seriously, folks...when information like this was released or "leaked" during the Clinton admin, everyone with the bush bumper stickers were screaming for full disclosure. I guess everyone wants to have it both ways.

When we find out that we knew before Sep. 11th that planes were going to be hijacked, then I would be pissed. The CIA, FBI, NSA, whoever the hell it is gets tons of leads, threats what have you every single day. It is ignorant to believe that we knew what was going to happen, and didn't do anything about it.

See? Beast1284 knows they are watching this thread. Echelon is picking up on it. Kissing butt is a great way for them to ignore you... 😉

What if Echelon flags you as harmless but Carnivore thinks you've committed treason? I guess that's what Homeland Security will be for.....its upcoming HAL9000 will make the final call.

"Good morning, Dave."
