What a fail. This thread is a big letdown. Can we ban the OP?

Agreed!

Apparently there is a new 5 Guys by my house. I'm going to check it out right now. I like In n Out.... not a diehard fan like most people I know though.

I've been to 5 Guys once and liked it. Fries were good, and burger was solid for fast food. Can't go alone as they don't have a TRUE small fry and that's when I'd usually eat fast food... if I'm out and about on my own.

No In N Out anywhere near me. I don't know why people try to keep comparing them to national places, as they're still pretty local. IMO Good Times is probably one of the best fast food burgers around, but they're still stuck in Colorado so not many people know about them.

I had InO several times during my stay in SoCal...given the hype surrounding it, it was somewhat of a letdown. It's good for the price and animal style fries is good when it's still hot.

It wasn't noticeably better than the Dicks chain that's around Seattle.

And the debate rolls on! There's an In-n-Out vs Five guys thread once a month.

I always have to chime in to say In-n-Out is 100x better. Plus it's like $6 for a buger and $4.50 for fries at Five Guys. Their burgers taste like burger king. Fries are tasty but like I said, expensivo.

I agree with the price being pretty high but Burger King? Really? Like I said earlier, I would love to have your Burger King replace mine locally.

no one has said 'it costs 9 fucking dollars for a burger combo'. which is the only legit complaint about five guys.

if you don't like their fries you and your taste buds should kill themselves.
The fries could be great, but they are shitty at the Cajun spices. You'll find fries caked with it, and others get none. How hard is it to make it consistent? (it's pretty easy)
Maybe they are trying to get away from a manufactured taste, but it's pathetic.
Not groundbreaking at all. And it isn't really all that Cajun.

I guess that means you aren't going to try again solo? Then again, I wonder if you ever really intended to eat at 5G to begin with... :)

Yes this thread will be revisited when I'm in the area solo.

I doubt they would let the cooks serve an undercooked burger even if the customer asked, if said customer then got sick he/she could try to sue. Unlike steak, all of ground beef is exposed to air when it's in the grinder hopper so any pathogen that might be present will be mixed throughout..

Yep. Steak can essentially be thrown on the grill, have a few flames blaze the surface for a few seconds, then throw it on the plate... and it could be called "safe."
Is it fully cooked? Hell no, but perfectly safe, since all the baddies are only on the outer surface of beef cuts. Burgers don't need to be well-done, but need to make sure the center reaches proper cooking temperature. Whole cuts of steak, it could still be cold and raw in the middle, so long as the surface was taken care of. :D

You outta see how nasty an aged piece of meat looks/smells, when I worked at Swift my boss found a 109 prime rib that had a broken cry-o-vac for quite awhile, I cleaned up the exterior (removed fat cap and trimmed the chime bone on the band saw then we lit up a grill and ate for lunch, unf-ing believable how tender it was, you could have eaten it with a fork alone...

Wrong. I don't even have to try InO to tell you that my burgers are better.

Dunno man. I've had some pretty dank homemade burgers with all the good stuff - homemade sour cream spread, garlic/spice infused patties, all the veggies, toasted buns, everything...

...and the goodness that is In-N-Out is just a different experience altogether.

Trust me, its not your typical fast food. I wouldn't touch McDonalds or any of the mainstream ones with a 100 ft. pole. Also, this obsession with Whataburger has me puzzled... I live in Texas and have had Whataburger. Its really no different from the other pseudo-meat everything frozen weird processed mainstream shit that you get at any other Burger King or McDonalds.

Jesus Christ, I'm a hamburger hipster.

Do any of these places exist in Canada, I don't think i've ever seen a 5 guys or an in and out in the GTA, then again I don't really look for fast food places. I did try a place called Fulton Market Burger it was $12 for a burger and potato wedges things lol, it was descent but insanely overpriced.

That's another thing about In-N-Out - a good-sized burger is $2. (or was last time I checked)

This thread shall now officially be about the superiority of In-N-Out.

It's a shame that I can't try them. There aren't any In-N-Outs on the east coast, are there?

My vote is for InO. Great burgers n fries... and still cheap. 5G is expensive.
