I'd support this, but I would make it two ways. I'd have it illegal for a politician to take money above very small amount, such as enough for a decent (but not obscenely expensive) meal. Doing so would be a felony of sufficient magnitude to force removal from office.

Further, no person who served on a committee and voted for an appropriation which favored any business could not receive any compensation whatsoever from that company or agent thereof or related corporation for a period of 5 years after their term in Congress ends. Violation would result in a felony with severe punishment.

That's not really good enough, they'd just hire spouses/children/extended family.

It's not post count, it's mental image. Everyone has to hate themselves because he's failed at normal mental life...if they don't, it makes his situation all that much worse which is not bearable, if he can construct everyone failing as he has, then he's finally part of the norm. Plus, since he "see's" it, where magically no one else can, he can feel superior...well, at least in his own mind. Once you understand that, his posts can be read for the humor they are. It's sorta like letting a kid blattle on about something they think they know they're talking about, if only for humor's sake. Sort of like a Mental234...er, a more Mental234...

Am I the only one surprised that you can buy an "intimate lunch" with a Congressman on the Armed Services and Science, Space and Technology committee for as little as $500??? FFS I could afford that, its probably cheaper per hour than Vitters prostitute (almost called her a whore but how would anyone know if I was talking about a woman he paid for sex or a coworker).

See I dont mind that people say this.
I mind when elites get away with it and everyone else gets a vacation for it. Moonie has posted about 10 times as much hostile shit as I have over the years and nothing ever happens to him.

Righties are so lame, so deep in denial they don't have the vaguest idea why lobbying exploded under Repub control of Congress and the Whitehouse. It's because they put up a big sign, and took out a full page ad in the NYT- It said "FOR SALE!"

For Pubbies, lobbyists are part of the team, the go-to guys for money now, money down the road, and bills to rubber stamp for even more money.

Lobbyists luvs Republicans, because getting bought is their raison de etre, what it's all about. And they say so quite openly, in their usual dog whistle way. Hell, they can blow one whistle for their base and another for their benefactors at the same time, and their base never hears the other.

Do you think it's some sort of accident that the number of registered lobbyists doubled in the first 4 years of the Bush Admin?

And just listen to what lobbyists say about their repub friends-

"We're trying to take advantage of the fact that Republicans control the House, the Senate and the White House," said John D. Hassell, director of government affairs at Hewlett-Packard. "There is an opportunity here for the business community to make its case and be successful."

Which is code speak for "Yippee! Pay to Play!"

Lots of things happen to me. Not much ever happens to a rock.

I wasn't being hostile, I was just suggesting that some folk are so mentally incapacitated it would better for the species they didn't breed.

I was trying to show my dear friend werepossum, via the use of a mirror, what he looked like to me in order to educate him on how partisanship colors your vision and the above two morons chimed in with no subtlety or the slightest idea how far out to lunch they were in understanding my intention.

But if it will help you to stop sniveling on your sleeve and sop up your whiny tears, I will ban myself from P & N for a week. I know you would rather I be ground under some machinery wheels, but it is the best I am willing to do under my own power. See you next Tuesday if I have an interest to post after that.

Speaking only for myself as always, nothing you have ever posted has offended or angered me. I have rhino skin, and I am at least as vitriolic if I think someone is being unacceptably stupid. (I do try to at least be humorous about it, but I'm sure many people fail to see the humor.) This IS the Internet, and if people can't hack it here they're probably going to have problems in real life as well. I'll make no judgments about moderator equity either way.

I am curious though if you (and those like you who view NPR as right wing) see any mainstream left-wing American press. The eagle can't fly with only one wing, y'know.

Here's the issue, weren't most of these freshmen elected directly or by hitching their wagon to the Tea Party in one form or another? Didn't each and every one of them at some point speak out on government largess and the need for serious reform? Didn't they rail about bank bailouts and pork, etc?

That was the signature issue of the campaign, that is why this is newsworthy and that is why there's nothing slanted about this NPR report.

Are you conservatives who voted for these people so cynical that you've forgotten these promises already? It's like it never even happened, back to business as usual.

Let's talk about the evil liberals at NPR instead...

I almost want to run for election on the sole premise that i took not a single persons money to get elected and I have no interest in talking to lobbysits. It would need to be grassroots.

let say be some miracle you were able to get elected... you would be voted out of office the next election without passing any legislation what so ever. Being in control of 1/535th of the legislative branch is not enough to do much. It is a game that has to be played. You sell one part of your sole in order to get support for some piece of legislation you want to push through.

Usually it is the voting public that loses because the game ends with the legislation benefiting the group with the deepest pockets.

Anyone who voted Tea Party and expected different results from these people continues on with the insanity. Did you honestly expect them to be we the people once in DC? Wake up. They got paid, you got played.

This is how our government works. It has nothing to do with being republican or Democrat. You know the Democrats are just as involved in fund raising. How come the democrats were not talking about this?

Agreed.

I don't want you to stop posting, you're this forums biggest comedian. Macro and Socialist234 come close, but, for looney toons comedy, you are by far and above everyone else. It just makes it even funnier when you think you're so mentally above everyone else that we 'just don't get it'. We get what you're saying, that's what makes it so funny! :awe::thumbsup:

IGNORE Moonie? That's just wrong on so many levels. That's like putting G-d on IGNORE. Well, maybe G-d's bratty little brother. :D

Everyone is different, but personally I have twenty-two "persons" on my IGNORE list. Moonie, like Craig, sometimes makes valid, almost existential, points, things that make me rethink all those other posts. More to the point, they are things I need to see, even if I violently disagree with them. Especially if I violently disagree with them. I reserve my IGNORE list for those who never (in my never to be humble judgment) make a thoughtful, useful, intelligent comment, never make a comment worth reading, never show humor beyond bashing those with whom they disagree. Granted, everyone differs on whom that describes; I'm sure I am on my share of IGNORE lists. Even then, sometimes I see a quote by another and realize I had totally misjudged that person, mistaken fundamental differences in outlook with the inability or unwillingness to think. YMMV, everyone has different levels of tolerance for vitriol, dissent, silliness, etc.

Just my two cents bucks.

I'm back as promised after my week of exile to thank you for your excellent decision even if werepossum disagrees. Having you ignore me will be like losing a dingle berry to a broken hair in my ass, much appreciated if little noted in passing. And your straw man shit is a straw man to make it sound like something real was said. Try to say exactly what you mean, from now on, but of course to others, since you will be ignoring me, instead of mouthing slogans like you know what they mean or have contextual reference.

I can't help the fact that I grew up learning to think and thereby transcend all the garbage I was taught as a child, and that my enormous intellectual capacity, of course, enormous in comparison only to your own, and derived also thereby, but which in you lies dormant and therefore can't compete, makes you notice how inferior you feel you are to me, but which, owing to the this very fact of dormancy and atrophy, you project unnoticed onto me instead of recognizing that it is only you who puts me on that pedestal of implied intellectual gift all out of this very lack and unconscious inferiority.

You get what I'm saying, in other words, in a pig's eye.

Yes, I get that you're so mentally damaged you've created your own Matrix to live in. You could have just said that, but then, admitting that's what you've done would mean admitting to yourself you're not nearly as smart or introspective as you think of yourself.

Again, this is why I love your posts! It's your total committment to looney toons that makes your posts so much higher on the Snicker Scale than say Socialist234 or Macro. Your only real competition here is AzN and possibly TheGreenBean (although he's clearly mind F'd by his geography, so it's more like 'insight into that regions mind' than anything else), so at least you can claim to be superior in that regard.

At least you've succeeded at something in (real) life, no?

There is no eagle. There is only centrist and right wing media in America. Nobody ever heard of the Pacifica network nor does anybody listen. But where I spoke of a mirror above it was to try to tell you that I do not view NPR as being on the right. I was trying to tell you how it looks to the fanatical leftist point of view that I can adopt on will, and which I did here to show you that NPR is pretty much in the political middle, as witnessed, I think, by the fact that I do listen and note the comments sent in, namely, that from the right they are constantly attacked as being on the left and from the left the exact opposite. NPR is seen to be where it is, not by where it is, but where you view it from. You are the one with the rose colored lens.

You make some excellent points in your later post. Keep up the good work. I have nobody on ignore but put everybody on ignore for a week to exercise my faculty for distancing myself from my opinions. I am a nobody. I think the thoughts of a nobody. Noting I say or do is important. I am here today and will be gone tomorrow which will arrive soon. Every thought I held sacred died long ago. Because I have no sacred Cows to manage I am mentally free to go places and see things I would have never otherwise dreamed. Because I practiced a brutal honesty with myself I opened a door to hell where I found the answers to my suffering. I was burnt away and detached, suffering flame now with improved equanimity, and the results for the cool folk are sometimes too hot to handle. They do not know the rewards of being stripped on all the horse shit poured into them by centuries of sleeping morons and the tons of detritus self hate they accrete.

You don't know it but only a moron would ask that question. You are a tremendous success in real life just as I am, but your doubts about yourself make you envious that I might be more successful, which, of course, I am because I know I am. I am so successful in fact, in this life and others, that it's not even a question. I am so successful in additional fact that I am just as successful when I sleep. You just have no idea how successful a successful person can be. I can confirm everyday just how successful I am by how the smell of my success attracts so many wannabes and leaches like yourself. What a fool. You brought a drilling rig to tap the pure aether. Nice work, idiot.
