Some would-be attendees at President Bush's campaign events say they're being asked to leave for wearing clothes or stickers that support the president's opponent. At Sen. Kerry's rallies, the presidential hopeful ruefully acknowledges the presence of the opposition. NPR's Nina Totenberg examines the rights of campaign event planners and attendees.

Nope. Not for wearing items. NEVER. Only when they are intentionally causing a ruckus. Even then at a Kerry rally they are just kicked out. At a Bush rally they are kicked out and arrested. :/

From the story description (and feel free to listen to the audio story)

At Sen. Kerry's rallies, the presidential hopeful ruefully acknowledges the presence of the opposition.

I listened to that article on NPR and was rather dismayed at some of the stories. They were interviewing people who had been threatened with arrest from the Secret Service and/or local police (each group blames the other) for wearing a Kerry shirt underneath a shirt or something along those lines. IIRC, there was even one group of people that were ejected for even one person not adhering to the proper dress code (not just the one person was ejected, but several were).

I think the biggest thing that bothered me is that as a taxpayer, I'm paying for that type of treatment at public events like that (if a private party is paying entirely for the event, then it's up to the group organizing that event as to who to let in).

Republicans arn't much into desent. That's way they support that president they have no matter how screwed up things are and corrupt this administration gets. As far as fascist, the majority would'nt mind a hitleresque type regime so your barking up the wrong tree even bringing this up. Of course people should'nt be free to oppose and question. Just look how POed Bush looked when the dabate monitors dared to ask him questions. I thought he was going to kick someones ass or cry.

You got that right.

I was watching a video of many events of 1968. Some of the parallels to today are very eery.

Ya that's quite normal behavior for the Right. See when a conservative says he hates "big government tyranny" he really means using of the power of the state for anything beneficial or benevolent for the people, but nothing wrong with old fashioned tyranny of government like prison, torture, executions, domestic surveillance, and of course war. Just a different social vision. No biggie.

Hey look another thread where people don't really know what they are talking about. Go figure. Some of us have worked these events and know how things work...but hey - don't let that get in the way of you lapping up what the alarmists are bleating.

As for dissent being quashed? I think some of us know exactly how it feels. Ofcourse some more than others -but hey. If that's what floats your boat - so be it. The left has shown it's intolerance of dissent just as much as you claim the right has.

Republicans are on the same side of the political spectrum as Fascists and grade into them.

Why should he? We should all know that his one particular case must be the way it is for all people. That these stories of loyalty oaths are all made up. Guess CsG thinks the Holocaust was a hoax, too.

Are you claiming people wearing pro-Kerry or anti-Bush items are allowed into all Bush events? Any Bush events? You've seen this with your own eyes?

WTF is going on with the republicans? After hearing the piece, it makes me sick to hear how this secret society is operating.

He doesn't know. Cad simply relies on his anecdotal experience from the few Bush Fan boy rallies he's attended and extrapolates from there.

Or rather you leftist take a news report(that doesn't contain all the facts) and extrapolate it. Like I said before - it's just another thread where people don't know what they are talking about and believe what the alarmists are bleating.

What facts are they missing?

Face it Cad, there's been an endless string of these reports ever since the campaigns began in earnest. Bush events screen and filter for dissent and Kerry events occasionally have a problem with a disruptive audience member, but generally don't screen/filter. Face it Cad, Bush hates anyone who disagrees with him and it trickles down to the SS goons and the local police goons and the goons like you who get a kick out of booting people who don't agree from your little pep rallies.

The evidence stacked against you is overwhelming.
