Nowadays, how do most newlyweds meet?

I thought this was an interesting factoid. Do you know anyone who married someone they met online?

So, How'd You Two Meet?

In the past, many couples met through friends or family, or through work. A recent poll shows that more and more, people are meeting in a more high-tech fashion.

Not so long ago, people used to be embarrassed to admit they had met their match online.

Now it's become the most common way to find love, according to a survey by eHarmony and Harris Interactive of 10,675 people ages 20 to 54 who got married in 2006 or 2007:

19.4% of newlyweds met online

17.2% made their love connection through friends

17.2% met their future spouse at work

8.8% learned to love someone they met at school

8.3% found romance at a party or other social gathering

Having some online options in addition to being set up on blind dates by a well-meaning great aunt is a good thing, isn't it?

An acquaintance met his wife online. She was/is British. They have been married for about 10 years and have a happy family. Personally, I think it's kinda weird. I met my wife while playing sports.

Meeting online doesn't quite have the same social stigma it did about 5 years ago or so. Facebook, LinkedIn and other networking sites tend to have a more professional slant to them and are less stalker oriented (e.g. MySpace).

That said, I met my beautiful wife at work.

I find the verbage fascinating -- "learned to love." Almost like you're settling for some poor sap you managed to put up with through school.

I think they were trying to be clever with "learn" and "school," but you're right, cleverness not found.

Left my ex girlfriend for her friend..now my fiance 😀...met in person?

I think that would qualify as "met through a friend" since you were introduced through your girlfriend who could be considered your friend at the time.

could it also mean college? as in....settling for someone who was going to be a busy, but rich, doctor or lawyer or some such?

Pretty much everyone I have ever dated I have met through work or school. I don't interact online enough to meet people there.

I met my fiance online. Dated for three years and will be married this May.

We both dated around 'in real life' but we both used online dating as an additional tool, if you will. What I liked about online dating is that I could cut thru a bunch of bullshit without having to spend money and time in order to find things out about them.

I don't really consider this social networking. I have a Facebook account, but I almost never use it.

I suspended my WoW account because I just do not have time to play (hadn't logged in for over a month) so I didn't really feel like paying while I have to time to play the game. Maybe when I get more free time I'll fire it up again.
