Now working for TeAm AT SoB!

PM me if you can walk me through it...or link me to an FAQ...

I'm feelin kinda lazy! :Q

edit - I got it...see below! 🙂

Thanks......got it up and running...Was pretty easy....

So yeah I'm on the team, P4 2.4B, seems to be moving pretty fast (Like 12-13min total for this first unit?)

I'm a previous TeAm AT SETI member too...put in about ~1280WU's in my time...🙂

Hopefully my little Dell will help! 🙂

Thank ya! 🙂

So how do these units work? I see all this cEMs/sec and stuff 😕

Right now it's showing 380xxx.x and increasing...looking like it's gonna finish in around 10 minutes...

dat good? 🙂

Can't tell you haven't ever done SoB.
I done seti DF, TSC and D20l and Todd ,another member of the Rebel alliance, is do Folding At home but not SoB, at least not yet

the 380xxx cems/s is basically the number of calculations being generated per second (correct me if wrong!). The higher the better b/c the higher the rate the faster the *work unit* will be processed through completion. You should settle in around 380-->420 depending on ram timing. tighter the timings the better the rate i've found.

Welcome to the team!

Welcome to the SoB TeAm!!

The "WU" (full test) is split up into a number of blocks, which varies depending on the particular block. The "work rate" is your cEMs/sec, which is corrected Exponential Modulations per second. The math function it is doing is a EM, however, it's "corrected" in some way (i'm not sure exactly how) so that it is reasonably easy to compare blocks, and obviously the cEMs/sec is how many you can do in a second. This value will change even on the same computer, as the values of k and n change (kind of like how the different AR of a Seti WU will affect the time it takes).

If you have "Transmit Intermediate Blocks" turned on, then every time you finish a block (the top status bar, and the time counting down) it will connect to the server, and tell it your status, let it know how much work you've done, and to let it know you're still out there working on a block. You must connect once every 10 days with a full test, otherwise it will re-send the test to someone else. If you have TIB off, then it will only connect at the end of the full test. This can sometimes help if the client stalls often if it fails to connect.

SoB LOVES low latency and high bandwidth memory. My P4 2.26GHz with DDR333 dual-channel memory computers at work are getting about 500k cEMs/sec, my Athlon XP @ 1.93GHz with single channel memory at 340MHz (170x2) is only getting about 370k cEMs/sec.

Let us know the specs of your computer, and someone will have a similar computer which they can tell you whether it's right or wrong speed! 😉

Hope you enjoy the SoB project! And good luck finding a Prime!!

Cool...

So is this a decent help to the TeAm? I know it's only 1PC, but will it actually make a difference?

I had fun w/ SETI and all, but it seems like my ~1300WU's weren't toooooo meaningful...😕

That is about 1000 more seti units than I've done. Our team is currently doing around 55 million cEMs/sec. If you're computer can do 500,000 then you are doing about 1% of our teams output. I would say that you 1 pc is making a big difference.

Definitely make a big difference. I'm crunching with just one or two boxen (plus a couple off and on from friends) and I like to think I've made a significant contribution... 😉

There's something really fulfilling about small projects 🙂

Don't get us wrong, 1 or 2 boxes does make a difference in the bigger projects, everything counts, it's just that with these smaller projects, with less people, you see more of an impact. No matter what project, however big, 1 box makes a difference! 🙂

All I need now is to wait for my boss to get off the phone with a 2003 Server CD-Key, and I can get SB installed on a Dual 2.4GHz Xeon machine 🙂

Now that will surely make an impact! 🙂

So will the 3 more SX270 2.26GHz systems waiting in boxes for this server to be up and running 😱

It will on one of the processors. On the other ---- 🙁
