Check out his afro.

Meet Kinky - named for his tail.

Junior

I could have reached my hand out the truck window and touched him, but the owner advised against it. These buffalo are HUGE - the male is almost 6 feet tall at the top of his hump. The black ones are smaller than the brown ones, but more valuable.

They are friendly, but at the same time, they're wild. They might turn on you at any second, or freak out if your jacket flaps in the wind. So it's better not to let yourself get too comfy around them, or let them get used to getting too close.

We have a buffalo ranch near where I live. They sold buffalo jerky at the store there. Damn, that was so good.

Probably just to cover his butt. Sounds like you went on a tour of some sort? If so, I'm guessing they would probably rather play it safe than to let everyone touch the animals. Also, there might be a possibility of disease transfer they could be worried about?

Friend of mine & her husband just bought 5 buffalo, I've been trying unsuccessfully that a traditional barbed wire fence does not work for buffalo...

Guess they'll learn the hard way.

Where did you see the buffalo at sixone?

The ranch is near some ground my husband farms, and when my husband met him, he mentioned that I wanted pics, so the guy was nice enough to take us out when he went to feed them.

He was more worried about our safety than anything. Buffalo have a reputation for freaking out at the slightest thing, and they can be very aggressive if threatened.

This guy has a five-strand barbed wire, and one or two strands of electric wire. He said that once they figure out the wire is hot, they don't mess with it like cows would. But they're pretty hard on the fences that aren't hot - they want to rub on the posts, then get tangled in the wire.

He's sort of a neighbor, at the moment. He's planning on moving east somewhere next year, as it's too dry here. :(
