Now this is a security feature I haven't seen before - Typing "rhythm"?

I was wondering when they were going to adopt one of those stupid "we show you a picture" type security systems but apparently they've been monitoring my typing for months and are prepared to ID me not by what I type but how I type it.

Kind of cool, & the first of my (many) banks that is using it.

Added an h to appease davestar.

Since IE, Firefox, etc allow you to log in automatically, and now with Vista's single sign-on feature, how would you be able to log in if the password is stored?

How do they monitor "how you type"?

What if I hurt my finger and type differently? What if I am on a laptop keyboard and typing differently?

This is a stupid idea.

I like the idea and I think it's a pretty clever innovation on security.

But I won't use any program that saves passwords, so I have no problem typing them in.

It's explained in the FAQ, it's a flash app.

They have an alternate login page you can use that will bypass the system, but requires that you answer security challenge questions in addition to using the password.

so if you misspell "rhythm" then it knows that you're Viper GTS and lets you in... interesting

Plus, often my typing "rhythm" is "fits and starts". What if I go slow on the first part, then slow on the second...then another day that gets reversed?

It's an interesting idea, but it will take a while to get all the bugs out of the system.

Didnt someone write a algorithm a few years ago that could tell what someone was typing just by listening to them type for an hour or two?

Seems feasible with enough computing power. When I listen to someone in the office type, I can tell when they hit the space or backspace or enter key just by the sound. If you know when they hit space, you can get the length of each word, start to break down "patterns" i.e. some letter combinations might have a slightly longer delay based on where the keys are on the keyboard, etc.
